Ruger 38+P and .357 LCR Comparison

I was ABLE to hold both a LCR in 38+P (With CTs) and a stock gripped LCR in .357 Magnum.

The .357 is reportedly only 3-4 ounces heavier but it seemed a bit beefier in most areas than the 38+P.


Myself,, having owned some 6 Ruger SP-101s over the years.

The reason that I don't carry a SP-101, is the fact that they are too heavy for me.

Ruger's .357 LCR felt like a very black and very light SP-101.

I like the LCR 38+P a bit more because it is so light and wonderfully smooth.


DAO in the LCR seems far superior to the SP.

However, back to the .357 version of the LCR.

A bigger gun that's marginally heavier but will also weigh even more with Magnum rounds aboard, crosses it off my list.


Until SP-101 fans can get the long rumored aluminum framed SP.

The .357 LCR should suffice for those people/situations that demand Magnum power in a light package.

I like both the .38 LCR and the .357 LCR. I think the .357 version is 4.4 ounces heavier than the .38 with standard grip and 4.9 ounces heavier than the .38 with the compact grip. I thought your analysis was very good but I have several examples of Smith and Wesson airweights and several SP101s and see no need to replace any of them. Got other things I want more.
