Arrrgggg.... The Gun Room-- Again!

Oldfart, sounds like a sever customer service training issue or lack
there of. That's the fault of the store management. Until management
changes there that BS won't either. I worked at Academy a few years back
and we'd bend over backwards to held our customers. Sometimes they went
a little too far IMO. But our management made sure we did.

The one here seems a lot better than that, I've been in it about 10 or 12
times since it opened and can't say I have had any complaints. It meets a
real need around here. Not many shops close by and the bigger stores have
poor selections and higher prices.

fisherman66 , yup that's the one I'm talking about. What has your
experience been?

I've had great experiences at both the 82nd Ave Sportsmans, and the new one here in Bend. Might be time to give them another shot.

As for them not stocking something "because nobody ever wanted it"... how do you think they decide what to order? Pick items out of a hat? No demand = no supply.

Knowing The Gun Room, it's probably more of a Gunstore Owner attitude problem. Please understand, this is not one of those "gunstore owners suck" postings; it's just this guy. He's got the customer service skills of the common cactus. "If I don't carry it, it's crap" really does seem to be his attitude.
I won't go in there, period.

NW Armory is all right, as is The Gun Broker. The Powder Horn out in Forest Grove is good too, although small.

Shweboner, you got a shop yet?

It is the owners attitude at the Gun Room, he is rude, opinionated and caustic.

I don't go there anymore.

When I was shopping for my Ruger P90 he told me they don't carry Rugers, because there is no $300 gun that's worth a damn.

The man is an idiot and a joke.

I recommend;

Northwest Armory

The Gun Broker in Clackamas

They have always treated me right.

I have not been to Keiths yet but intend to remedy that situation soon.

PromptCritical,

Well, I took a new shooter to Keith's today. We went there because I have heard many good things about Keith's and she wanted to put her hands on several differant guns to see where she should start in the trying out process.

You are right, they have just about everything there, they even have a Ruger Gold Label.

The salesman we had was a little condecending, and had a little bit of a line of BS and kept steering her towards Kimbers and such. He also pretty much said that the largest caliber she would be able to handle would be 9mm. She has shot several handguns in the couple of weeks she has been shooting, and she shoots .45 acp pretty good in fact. He did suggest a S&W 908 and a S&W 1911 that she liked.

He also made a homosexual joke, out loud, in front of a store full of people, not cool.

He was patient, showing her several guns and even letting me handle the Gold Label.

The thing that bothered me most was the big sign by the front door, that said,

"No Loaded Guns Inside Except for Active LEOs."

I unloaded in the parking lot, and when I asked if the sign applied to people with CHL's he said yes. He then went on to say that they pretty much have a "No Ask No Tell" policy, and it is for liability purposes. Sigh.

On the way back to the house we stopped at the Gun Broker in Clackamas, they treated her like she was an intelligent human being, capable of making an informed choice. They showed her several guns, she had a list of guns she wanted to see, and they suggested some more. They had a great deal of patience and she will probably buy a gun from them in the near future.

When we left Keith's she was kind of discouraged, thinking that she was stupid or dumb. When we left the Gun Broker, she was in a much better frame of mind and was once more enthusiastic about getting a gun.

Maybe we just caught the wrong guy at the wrong time at Keith's, I hope so. I will probably give them another chance, but I won't be taking any new shooters there until I know the staff and know which ones to trust them too.

Not trying to rag on Keith's, everyone can have an off day, just wish it had gone better.

my first gun was a .22 HR 622 4" revolver, blued. I paid a bit more than I ought to have for it. I bought it at Keiths. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, and as such, wanted something fun to shoot, economical, and easy to learn on. I got what I wanted, but not without a bunch of condesencion.

and wrong info: the gun I bought was a double action, not sa. The guy insisted that it was an sa revolver.

BTW: this gun is a GREAT shooter. very accurate at 30 long paces, and seems to hold up very well. It is my training gun, and I love it to death.

My second was my carry piece from NW Armoury out in milwaukee. Fantastic sales staff, showed me everything that was in my price range/tastes, suggested things that I might prefer, and ordering just what I wanted (although taurus had raised the price by 10$, they tossed in an uncle mikes holster and a box of .38 to make up for the hard cost increase). Happy now to own a Taurus 851 roundbutt.

I will call the gun room on 82nd and find out what they have available in shotguns. The wife wants one and I want to find out what she likes before I start just buying random shotties. thanks for the tipoff!
