Got this at a gun show today, went to get some small parts and ammo. Scored the parts and ammo when I found this. Offered all the cash I was carrying, didn't think he'd go for it, but surprise, $640 out the door. Unfired with box, sling, book, & cleaning kit.

Model SA M-7 milled reciever, 7.62x39 Bulgarian parts by Arsenal, Las Vegas, NV.

Did I do good or not? I was looking at stamped reciever Bulgarian AK74 in 5.45x39 for $599 last show, but didn't want another caliber to deal with. This one was much better that what I had considered last show. Main thing that made me hesitate was no scope mounting rail.

One way to get around the lack of side rail is to find an MMC rail.

It has to be installed by a gunsmith, who will have to drill and tap four holes in the left side of the receiver, but it will provide you with a Picatinny rail that sits just over the iron sights, and is very solid.

Not the best deal in the world, but that really does not matter if you are happy with the rifle.

It is one that is worth owning.

In my experience, AKs are not accurate enough to really justify a scope, its just my old eyeballs don't see iron sights very well anymore and the ones on an AK amoung the worst for me.

I'll probably try a reciever cover mount with a Red Dot sight if I decide to shoot it a lot. Its the best looking AK I've ever seen, so I may just keep it pristine. Easy to say today when the forecast is for rain coming in tonight and tomorrow :)

Wally, the SAM-7 is one of the nicest AK-47s variants. That price isn't too bad, considering the 8.25% tax. I paid more for mine in the store at the time, so I don't think you did too badly. Enjoy.

As far as accuracy goes, it will surprise you. Mine will shoot 5 shot groups in about 2 inches at 100 from sandbags. Arsenals are above average in accuracy for an AK.

Just my .02,

Aesenal AK rifles are the very best of the best of the AK Varients.
Pre-ban Chinese AK Varients still go for more than you paid for your new rifle and are one third the value of what you bought.
Enjoy your new rifle.

Looking at asking prices on GunBroker.com from an Arsenal search, I'm happy with the price, should have did it before going to the show :), but its the first Arsenal NV I've seen, the Global Trades/Arsenal are nice, but not this nice and would end up a bit higher after our 8.25% grift.

Besides I didn't have enough cash to really be looking for one. Just kind of happened, saw it, offered what I had, and made the deal, my wife liked it, when she asked "how much" I said three and a half trips to Greg (her hairdresser :)).

If it'll really shoot 2-3 moa I'll invest in a good mount and decent scope.

Arsenal rifles are capable of shooting to that margin using high grade ammunition though I will confess the .223/5.56 NATO caliber rifles seem to shoot better than the 7.62X39 caliber rifles.

K-VAR out of Las Vegas should have Bulgarian side rail plates and hardware in stock and any decent gunsmith can center and rivet the plate in place on your rifle.

K-Var also usually has excellent Russian type scope mounts in stock that work beautifully on these mount plates. HTH
