I was talking with some friends about the money spent on firearms and it made me think back over the many firearms I have purchased and their relative 'values' to me.
Please keep in mind that I am quite frugal and believe that you WILL go to hell for paying retail... literally! I'm serious it's in the bible!

Shotgun:
Winchester Defender 12 gauge - NEW 18" barrel 8 shot synthetic stock brand new from Gart Sports $249 added a sidesaddle good to go. (100% reliable over 20,000shells).
Mossberg 5500 MKII 12 gauge - USED LNIB 26" field barrel semi auto $100 (it broke the firing pin, and split the gas 'O' ring, on the trap range and I dropped it and cracked the forearm... about $50 to fix everything otherwise 99% reliable).

Assault rifle:
SKS 7.62x39 - NEW Chinese (Kmart variant) $125 (100% reliable over 10,000 rounds of crappy Wolff ammo sometime will go 2000-3000 rounds without being cleaned!!!)

Pistol caliber carbine:
Hi-Point 995 9mm - I kinda stole this... 16" barrel bough NIB from a private party for $50 it included 500 rounds of 9mm (that's worth $50 alone)!! Added a Red dot and a hi-cap for another $50 (100% reliable over 3000 rounds).

Rimfire rifle:
Ruger 10/22 - NEW from Galyans ...... approx $150 (my wife bought it for me) on special with a .22 scope

Precision rifle:
Tikka .30-06 - just bought this last week in "like new in the box" condition with a Leupold VII scope (NIB) from a private party for $450 I was worried about the police pulling me over for stealing this setup!! (100% reliable over 30 rounds)

Handguns:
All bought brand new from a dealer.
Glock 19 9mm - NEW $350 from Gart Sports on special (100% reliable 10,000+ rounds)

Colt Government Model .45 - NEW NRM blue variant ran me $549 from Gart sports (100% reliable over 10,000+ rounds box stock!!)

Colt Commander Model .45 - NEW NRM blue variant ran me $599 from a local dealer (100% reliable over 10,000+ rounds box stock!!)

The only failures on any of these diverse weapons have been ammo or idiot related, apart from the worn out firing pin in the Mossy.

So you could get a shotgun, a pistol caliber carbine, and an assault rifle, and a precision rifle, and a handgun for about $1,000!

Cameron

Thats very nice collection without spending big $$$
thanks for sharing

Nice. You stole the SKS and the Hi-Point. I would worry about them turning up on the NICS hot sheet. But if your so dang frugal why'd you buy Colts, even at those prices? A used Norinco or a Rock Island would have saved you $200 or more per gun. (Granted, you can't get the Norinco in a Commander, but the RIA you can.)

870 12g $100
10/22 $160 (only new purchase)
mauser $89
30/30 '94 (trade for a day's work stringing barbed wire + I got hunting privilages)
GP100 357 $280

Few inherited firearms Free

Total: $629

Hey all the other guns can be relaced but NEVER say anything bad about my Colts! If my house was burning down I would make sure my Colts were outside and then see if I can get back in to get the wife out....

Hmmmm OK, I'll play....

Maverick 88 12-Ga pump $106, + $65 18" barrel bought 2 years ago

Ruger KP-90 .45 ACP $350

OLD Marlin 99 .22LR $20

Ruger Sheriff's Model .357 Vaquero $350

Mossberg ATR-100 .30-06 $315 w/3-9x50 scope

Mosin-Nagant M-44 Romanian $50

Yugo 59/66 SKS $100

Nice collection. You can't go wrong with purchasing low cost guns at "new" prices unless you try and sell them. The Colts will hold their value better than the rest of the guns in your collection just because of the name.

I try to save up and when I find something for the right price I grab it. I rarely buy anything new anymore unless I want to break it in myself - mainly target rifles.

I am in the market for a semi-auto shotgun so I sold my Mossberg 500 combo to a friend. I had purchased it new in 1990 for $230 and had put about 2000 rounds through it over the years. It came with the pistol grip, standard wood stock, 26" barrel, and 18" barrel. I sold it to a friend for $200 in very good condition. Not bad for something that gave me 15 years of problem free shooting and served it's purpose to protect the household.

Well...I'd call it a "Personal Battery" rather than an Arsenal, but I'm funny that way. Decent selection, very good prices.

You sir are a SHOPPER!

Geoff
Who hope you shoot as well as you shop! :D

Last time I went to the safe, I found some that I forgot I had bought.:what:

Aas fer the prices, FORGET THAT! I can't remember that, much less, when I bought them. Just glad that they are there.

Now if I had some more range time.....................................:cuss:
