Made me think of an Ayn Rand quote:
"America's abundance was created not by public sacrifices to 'the common good,' but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes. They did not starve the people to pay for America's industrialization. They gave the people better jobs, higher wages and cheaper goods with every new machine they invented, with every scientific discovery or technological advance -- and thus the whole country was moving forward and profiting, not suffering, every step of the way."

I'd have to say I agree more than disagree with the JPFO article. One of the things that irritates me to no end is government mishandling / theft of Social Security funds. :cuss: The government has been digging into the social security barrels for money to fund it's other projects. The younger generation has little hope of ever seeing their social security dollars again. It's effectively a tax on the working. As if income tax weren't enough. And State income tax. And State Sales Tax. And Gasoline tax. And...

Where did that thing about getting fined $500 for writing "Paid Under Protest" come from? I've never heard that before.

As true as their message may be, it only had one paragraph on taxes on firearms. I think it dilutes JPFO's primary message. There are lots of taxpayer organizations. Stay on topic JPFO.

I think it actually says that on the form.

It's definitely the law. If you write "I hate the IRS" on the 1040 they can bill you $500 for having expressed your beliefs.

I agree with that post.

Gee, for all we pay to the feds we could all buy second houses.

Wasnt there some talk of doing away with income taxes and going to a higher tax for purchases? That actually sounds like a good deal... you dont have to contribute as much that way.

The Fair Tax is picking up more speed and converts. It would, as I understand it, do away with the Excise Tax we pay on guns.

The Mfg. currently pays it, but of course its passed on to you, the consumer.

I agree with the premise as well as almost all the details, but whay did they have to throw this idiocy in there?
The so-called “No Child Left Behind” program was sold in the name of improving education. No one mentioned until much later that it also automatically put every government-schooled child on military recruiting lists.
Oh NO! They'll be able to talk to your kids!

thanks for that article... a good read

It seems to me that it says more about how bloated our gov't is than anything else. As the article points out, it seems to be a progression over the years of taxing the people more and more. I think it is human nature that when you put all these people in power, they would feel the need to "take care of their people". Of course, this can only be done with more money, but what does that matter.... its for the greater good right? The career politicians aren't helping either. They'll vote for anything if it will help get them reelected, whether its truly good for all of us or not.

I'm not saying I have a fix for this, I just don't like it.

John kennedys qoute, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"
Always struck a nerve with me. It seemed much less patriotic and far more socialist.

As far as taxes, "A governemnt of the people, by the people, and for the people"

I never need to say anything anymore, all i have to do is qoute, everybodys already said it for me...

KriegHund, the JFK quote's context was more in line with, "Get a job and pay your taxes while making America stronger, don't sit back and wait for welfare." His campaign platform and Reagan's were similar in "Reduce taxes and get government off the back of business." Social liberal; fiscal conservative.

In June, 1984, a federal court in Montana found against IRS in the levying of a $200 fine against a woman who had signed her 1040, "Signed under protest." or equivalent words. BIG Page 1 article in a daily newspaper.
