As an alternative to me buying more Glock mags...

Ever since the idea of these new "bans" have been put on the table, every website I go to that I've been using to buy magazines for my Glocks...Well...They all seem to be back ordered or sold out . My solution to this problem is to stock up on extra parts for my existing magazines. That being said, I present a question to those of you who put some hard use on your Glocks and Glock magazines. What parts of the Glock magazine tend to wear more frequently and often? I think the follower and the actual shell tend to last quite a while, but the spring, mag floor plate and floor plate insert tend to wear more quickly. Do you think I'll be okay with just buying a few extra springs or should I go all out and get extra floor plates and floor plate inserts? Also, in reference to the mag springs for those 33 round 9mm mags and 22 round .40 mags, do those take the 17 coil springs or the 14 coil springs? For the 33 round 9mm mags, do those floor plates differ from the regular ones? Do they take different floor plate inserts? If so, would regular floor plates and inserts work on them? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

The part I worry about most with magazines is the feed lips bending or breaking.

Yeah but I keep all my mags loaded...I personally think they're better loaded than not.

The springs get the most wear. I'd just invest in the springs, the rest would stillbe available during a ban (except the body maybe?).

I thought you were going to say just buy more Glocks and mags will come with them . Then just sell them later with ten rounders.

I have replaced the magazine springs in most of my aftermarket mags with Wolff springs. They are low cost and very good quality.

How about instead of using that money to stock up on magazines, you donate it to the NRA or GOA?

Springs have already been covered as the most likely wear point. However, I have to say I've never worn out a Glock magazine to the point that it caused any malfunction. This includes years where I was shooting 7-10k rounds through my IDPA gun (Glock 19 in the past, Glock 34 this year). That means I had magazines that saw 1000 rounds + in a year and are still to this day working 100%.

So spare parts are never bad to have set away, but it shouldn't take a lot to feel comfortable.

If your Glocks are 9mm, I have read on this forum that the 10-round .40 magazines will hold larger amounts of 9mm. I have not tested this myself, and am just keeping that bit of trivia tucked away for a rainy day.

Even though it may be awesome to stock up on magazines, it's a shame I can't find them anywhere, hence my comment in the original post "every website I go to that I've been using to buy magazines for my Glocks...Well...They all seem to be back ordered or sold out." So yes, I would love to stock up on Glock magazines, but I can not at the moment. Yes, it would be a good idea to donate to those organizations, but I think having mags for my Glocks is a better idea.

I believe that in the last "Ban" it was not allowed to replace parts in existing magazines, although unenforceable.

During the prior AWB, it was OK to repair pre-ban magazines, with parts to maintain the original configuration. It was not OK to alter post-ban magazines to hold more than ten rounds. Of course, individual states may have had different, more restrictive language.
