Has anyone tried to fit a Uberti birds head grip on their ASM 1851 Navy?? I just didnt know if the ASM's were a closer fit to the Uberti or the Pietta?? I would like to change mine over, but dont know if anything will work. Thank you. Kevin.

I haven't got a clue whether they'll fit but if you get up the courage to do it I'd love to see the results. I've got a sneaking feeling that they're gonna be "trim to fit" at least.

From what I've learned, I think ASM was a pretty realistic reproduction, at least more so than Pietta.

Mr. Joe, thats alot of money for a peasant like me to spend on a hunch. Why dont you try it (with your endless source of funds) and let me know if it works. :)

I know ASM doesnt have a great quality control record, but I really like mine. I've had no problems with my 3 at all. Kevin.

"Endless Funds" yeah right, that's why I had to get a job, the funds ended. Now if they'd get me moving and making money I could start saving up for more toys. Hopefully a phone call today will net some billable hours tomorrow.

As far as the ASM's (or any repro) are concerned, I think it's a "pig in a poke". I've got an older 2nd Dragoon with a Tiger Maple grip that is superb. On the other hand, because "that" ASM was perfect and well made I bought an ASM Walker that was within a year or two of manufacture from the Dragoon, the Walker drove me nuts and it went bye-bye in less than a year.

I've got ASM's, Pietta and Uberti both in CB and cartridge. The maker I've had the worst luck with has been Uberti and contrary to popular belief/myth Pietta has been the best, your mileage may vary.

I have three Pietta/Traditions "Gold Rush Begins" pistols coming today. They all sport the "thunderer" grip frames in steel. Sorry, all three are spoken for. I bought mine in the hopes that I can put the grip frame on an 1860 sheriff I have. Might just fall in love with the .36 semi fluted gold rush as is.

Indy, are these newer guns? I dont know anything about them. Before you sell them all, try the grip on some of your other revolvers (uberti, asm, asp, ect) to see if they fit. That info would be valuable to me at least, probably many others as well. Kevin.
