This is going to be a dedicated ''assault rifle'' picture thread. ''Assault'' is any ''black'' or ''tactical'' semi-automatic (or automatic for those with class 3's) rifle (for the purposes of this thread at least :)). Please feel free to include your ak/ ar's, .308's, and anything else you feel meets the requirment. Thanks!

ok, I hate the term assault rifle too but how else do I grab attention, and get my point across in the title space? ;)

Oh gosh here we go again with the whole discussion of what ''assault'' means... It's a term intended to be used lightly in this particular thread.

I'm guessing that just calling it an AR15 picture thread would have been a lot more likely to get your desired results.

True there but I wanted ak's and all centerfire semi auto plinkers too!

Wrong forum to ask for 'assault rifles' Surprised nobody has directed to one of the class 3 forums. Most people will answer that they have never seen one.

I thought a real "Assault rifle" was made full auto.
So if you want to call your gun an "Assault rifle" that is fine, but remember when the laws change and they want to take away our "Assault rifles" you be sure to be the first to turn yours in!
I own only Semi-auto sporting rifles that have never "Assaulted" anything!;)

Please let's lay off this guy. I know, I know, you all are more "correct" in terminology (at least on the internet), but face it: We did understand what he's asking. ;)
Now I need to go dust of that camera...

Some people just suffer from analitis that's for sure, I found this pic and am currently lusting after one outfitted just like it in 6.8spc.

I have some sporting rifles with military styling:
Mini 30, SKS, MN 44 and three Lee-Enfields.

If my Toyota Camry had some extra features, the media could label it an "Assault Vehicle", or "Sturmwagen".
How does this look?

Wow 14 posts and not one real picture. What a bunch a jerks :) The guy wanted pics not a definition. You all knew what he meant but you guys chose to give em a hard time about terminology. Don't you all know "assault rifles" are the kind that reloads with "clips".:neener: Hehe

Reload with clips?! Don't you know that clips are what M1 Garands use?! The proper term is magazine! :p

Well, ignoring semantics, here are me and the wife's rifles; two of which are considered "assault weapons" in The People's Democratic Republic of California.

As you can see, the M1A has a flash suppressor and a detachable magazine, ye Gods! The Rock River Arms LAR-15 in 22LR has a retractable stock, pistol grip, flash suppressor, bayonet lug, and a detachable magazine!!! I was scared to death when my wife brought that thing home, it's pure evil, evil I tell you! It might have gotten out of it's Pelican case, loaded itself, and killed us all in our sleep!!! I was on guard with my 1911 for days I tell you! After I made it a few nights without dying I decided I could afford to just sleep with the 1911 under my pillow, ready to defend myself from The Evil Black Rifle at a moments notice.

And here's "assault weapon" #3

I just picked up the Sig 556 yesterday and got it out to the range for zeroing today :D

(I guess The People's Democratic Republic of California would consider my Beretta 92FS an "assault weapon" too, so that makes 3 rifles and a sidearm.)

Yup, I was waiting on that one. Hence my point on "terminology". :)

Crappy pic of my .223 Saiga. Converting and shooting it has been the most fun I've ever had with a gun.

Probably doesn't fit into anyone's definitions exactly... Sort of an "MBR"... Before anyone jumps on me I am not asserting that this is an "assault rifle". I'm putting it in because I like it. Otherwise, I'd post a pic of my light AR15 with red-dot, which looks about like everyone else's ;)

This is a .308 AR with piston system. Very accurate with no gunsmithing required on my part other than putting on an inexpensive A2 1/4MOA sight from Brownell's. Not my experience with some other .308 semi autos.

Kinda fits into the assault/SHTF/scary black gun category. Just ask the media. My wife saw this heavy thing, which I bought somewhere near the end of last year and said "Oh man, they are definitely going to ban that." (tongue in cheek)

Actually, I think "assault rifle" has become, somewhat specifically imprecise and conflated in meaning. Due to it's continuous use by different groups in the same discussion with different meanings intended... The gun control crowd says "assault rifle" to evoke evil intent in part. We say "oh no these are not 'assault rifles', those are full-auto" but the whole point is that the guns in question are fighting rifles and that is what is important to both sides.

Sometimes language evolves into something other than its original or academically-pure meaning.

As a wise man once said "it is what it is".

Even the "fighting rifle" definition is a fuzzy one. Does that mean that a M1903 with a bayonet isn't a fighting rifle? You can use it as a spear, club, or to shoot someone dead from hundreds of yards away and virtually every military on the face of the planet used them for decades, many countries used them up through WWII.

The fact of the matter is that the civilian/commercial market seems to follow the military. The military uses the M16/M4, the AR is hugely popular in the commercial market. The military used the 1911 and now uses the Beretta 92, both are quite popular in the commercial market. If the Army adopts the SCAR, I'd expect to see that become as widespread as the AR in the commercial market.

If the Brady Bunch and the VPC had existed back in the late 1800s they would have been calling lever action and bolt action rifles "assault rifles" and saying that civilians have no legitimate reason to own anything but muzzle loaders. Heck, we have seen the ideas of gun control as far back as the Middle Ages when Kings made it illegal for their subjects to own crossbows, for example.

If you ask me, arguing that civilians shouldn't be allowed to own the latest technology in anything is kinda dumb. Is anyone trying to say that you only have freedom of speech if you stand on the street corner or use a old school printing press? That the founding fathers didn't/couldn't have foreseen something like the Internet that allows anyone with a connection to spew hate speech worldwide? Wait ... I stand corrected. There are groups attacking free speech, the Mohamed cartoons come to mind ...

In the spirit of not being overly pedantic about the whole "assault rifle" thing, I'll bite:
Here's my Romy G in OD livery:

And just for kicks, here's my bullpup assault paintball gun. It's full-auto at 20 rounds per second and has a 200 round capacity. Since I actually have "attacked" people with it, it's technically more of an "assault" rifle than my AKM.

I reloaded my M1A today with clips- stripper clips. I don't have a clue on how to post pictures but, watch the segue on favorite rifle thread, it looks like any other M1A with a military fiberglass stock. I was shooting clay pigeons at 125 yards with nary a miss. It is my favorite by far.
