Went to the range again and shot my At47 ( American Tactical 47 ). It sure is hard getting used to not being accurate when shooting these AK's. After shooting the rifle my son even made the comment that " AK's are strictly assualt rifles " and that's what they are made for. I still wrestle with the idea of trying to hunt with it maybe, out to 50 yards. I have also noticed that the dust cover/safety does not come all the way up sometimes.
Is this a commom problem? I have not had any shooting problems with the rifle and no jams or anything after shooting wolf and brown bear ammo.

If anybody has a comment on the safety problem let me know, it does not happen every time but most of the time. Thanks in advance.

P.S. the saftey will come up but stop just short of covering the slide but does still act as a safety and will not let the trigger to be pulled. It stops about a 1/4 inch from being fully in the up position.

It sounds like something is interfering with the selector. It should go up flush with the top cover. If you take the top cover off, you can watch what goes on when you move the selector. Maybe youll see something.

AK's arent target rifles, but they should easily shoot 4" at 100 yards using the iron sights and ammo they like. Even at 200-300 yards they do pretty good.

interesting aside: The selector in the safe position was designed to allow you to pull the charging handle back with a loaded magazine inserted to check for a chambered round without ejecting a chambered round or chambering a round if there wasn't one there already.

This only works when the hammer is in the "cocked" position. Otherwise, you can only pull the handle back a bit before the safety interferes.

It works as isc described, either way. The carrier just doesnt come back as far if the hammer is down.
