On the marlin If it is firing reliably now but fails to extract live rounds that is a common problem , a new extractor is needed . You might also find help over at www.rimfirecentral.com they have a entire section on ways to fix Marlin rifles and others as well :) good luck :)

It still not firing reliably, though it is doing better with the Winchester rounds than the Federal rounds. I do not have any of my preferred CCI mini mags or stingers at the moment to try.

On the M44 I just came in from checking it and the shim I put in it was not thick enough. It was also made of thin card stock so I think I compressed it down from the starting 0.12 of an inch that it started with but it was just to see if it would work in theory. I replaced the shim with one made of a thin plastic that is 0.35 of an inch thick and it moved it enough to get some adjustments in the scope now. I rounded off my allen wrench and can not find the one that came with the mount right now so it is not as tight as it should be. When I get back to town I'll pick up a metric set of wrenches and see if I can get a metal shim to replace the plastic one that is there now. It is now aiming at the same point as the iron sights which was shooting high but centered and I centered the adjustments on the scope before lining it up so I should be able to get it sighted in once I have the new shim and everything locked back down.
