A sad but somewhat entertaining story; at least she didn't get tazered...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. May 24, 2005 — An 86-year-old woman has been sent to jail after police said she called 911 dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour to complain about a pizza parlor. Dorothy Densmore remained in jail Tuesday charged with misusing the 911 system, a jail spokeswoman said.

She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokeswoman. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said.

Densmore wanted them arrested. Instead, police came to arrest her, and she resisted, Giannini said.

It's unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said. But on Sunday, Densmore kept calling 911, even after she was told to stop, Giannini said.

When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.

Densmore is also charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show.

It was the second time she'd been charged with misusing the emergency system, court records show.

In March 2004, police said she called 911 about 10 times after she was asked to stop, a police report says. She then threatened to hit the officer with a chair when he came to arrest her, the report states.

I'm trying to figure out how this fits into.......

"Meet fellow forum members, find a common ground. Introduce new people to responsible firearm ownership. Posts must be related to firearms."

As sad as it is, this woman probably should not be living on her own. My grandmother is 96 or so and lives in an apartment at my mom's place. The problem is that she cannot read anymore because she cannot see and she cannot watch television anymore because she cannot hear. So all she does all day is think. She thinks about the past and all that stuff and it is driving her mad. I have to wonder if this little old lady may just be lonely or someting. I wonder if she has a gun to protect herself in the event of a break-in?

o.k., maybe this should be in legal... whatever

There has been much discussion here at THR about responsible and irresponsible use of the tazer. I thought perhaps this would contribute to that discussion. Guess I need to check with Steve in PA first, eh? :neener:

Here we have an assault on a police officer; not a young [handcuffed] teen throwing a temper tantrum, or a pregnant woman being obstinant, or a Marine Reservist being indignant, and yet no tazer. Hmmm...

I'd say it's a safe bet the woman has some dementia problems... Sad for her to be arrested...

And how does this contribute to the taser issue????? Because one wasn't used??? How do you know the dept even has them?? :neener:

Sad to be arrested? Why, because she tied up 911 operators?? And then people wonder why (in some cities) they can't get through???? Tied up officers responding to her nonsense when they could have been responding to something else??

Just another excuse to start a negative thread :barf:

I'm sorry you feel this was the intent, because it wasn't, and I'm sorry if bringing this issue up pushes your buttons. I don't come here to inflame or antagonize, and that was certainly not the point of this thread. I'm sorry if you feel this is pointless, but I thought it was an interesting story by comparison with those of zapping handcuffed teens, et al.
