I met a friend of mine at the gun show in Nashville today. Just after saying "Hey what up?!" he said, if you need ammo buy it,..now. Seems he has been getting a lot of mail from the ATF lately. Seems they can't do anything about controlling gun shows so the new plan is to attack ammo supplies, and soon.

Of course there is the drain the military is putting on some popular loads, but according to him, this action is completely independent for that shortage and is designed to make ammo unattainable or cost prohibitive.

FFLs, what are you hearing from the ATF? Surely you're getting the same mail.

I did notice some of the ammo prices seemed to be up, but I still managed to pick up 7.62x39 JHP at $18 per 100.

Watch out if you own a truck or SUV too, the EPA is going around slashing tires.

Good one! haha.

Unfortunately the constitution never said anything about ammo :( But I don't think the BATFE is going to dump ammo crates into the ocean. "The BATFE ammo party..."

Do you or your friend keep up with current events around the globe or is the time used to adjust the tin foil hat signals?

Ha.

If the ATF WAS going to go after ammo, do ya really think they'd be sending letters informing people of their intentions?

Sounds like Mr. Gunshow is a close cousin of Mr. Gunstore and is trying to offload some excess inventory. ;)

Thank goodness...I thought they were trying to create a milk shortage!

No, this is not what is happening. I posted what one of the major wholesalers told me about 2 weeks ago. Her explanation is very reasonable and plausible. This just seems like tinfoil hat.

You're mistaken. That's a very small group of tree hugging liberals who think they know how to safely handle sharp implements. Soon we'll read about apparent suicides taking place near suvs.

Lemme guess he just happened to have a case of wolf .223 for the low low price of $400 he was trying to sell ya!

No, actually it was a half a box of walmart 380 for $31.95, sale price :) He did pay a good bit for 200 match grade rnds for his M14.

Not at all. I've known David a long time. He is a Class 3 FFL, and while he can keep a room rolling with BS stories, he takes guns pretty seriously. As seen recently, the ATF is trying to provide dealers with a sense of power and authority enough to prevent someone from being able to make a gun purchase, based on nothing more than their personal feelings. Do you think it so strange they'd use that network to drive up ammo prices?

Well, let me ask this. Are those of you having so much fun with this on the ATF's mailing list? If so, you are qualified to sound off.

What I can tell you is that Dave hasn't lied about or misrepresented anything else that has come down the ATF pipeline. So I'm asking those qualified to answer what they are hearing (or reading as is the case). Donn your tinfoil hats if you like. It is either true or it isn't. I'm perfectly secure in my mental state. Thanks for asking though.

Tin foil hat or not, Its never a bad idea to by a extra case or 2 if you can afford it. I picked up a transmission (using my t.f. hat) that said history shows that prices on consumable goods, especially those allready in short supply usually continue to increase. That being said and no end to the war or shortages of brass, copper ect insight, my crazy butt is going to buy some extra ammo. Even if it turns out there is no shortage, it does my heart good to know my extra ammo keeps people like billary, pelosi, schumer and company up nights!

I've got an 03 FFL. I haven't gotten any letters about this.

I'm only aware of 1 letter that 03's have gotten this year, and it wasn't about ammo.

If this letter had been sent out it would have been all over the net the day it was first received.

I get the regular mailers from ATF when they send them out. There is info on the 4473 and stuff like that. I have never read anything that would be even close to what this guy said.

Just count it off as one of the million gunshow rumors that we hear all the time.

Unfortunately the constitution never said anything about ammo

It never mentions guns, knives or swords either. The 2A is about the inherent right to keep and bear "arms". The definition of "arms" at the time the constitution was written was broad enough to include, bows n arrows, swords, cannons, artillery and rockets. Oh and also firearms and the lead and powder needed for their function. Any law that limits your ability to use any weapon that is or has been suitable for military use is unconstitutional.

I really doubt the ATF is gonna make a concerted unilateral agency effort to inhibit the availability of ammunition. Now if the doogoodniks in DC have their way they may pass legislation to that effect and the ATF may be involved in enforcing it but
I doubt they will try and make an end run around the constitution on their own. Too risky for them, it might get complaints that could impact their funding.

Picknlittle, this won't be the first time a bunch of comedians were wrong. Especially, comedians that claim to be gun toting 2nd Amendment supporters. Some, have made jokes all the way down the slippery slope we are at today. I've listened to them for 43 years, ever since I bought my first gun at 13. I don't know if there is truth to what you have been told, but stay vigilant, and ignore most of the posts above. Better to worry, and get made fun of, than be stupid, and miss out on things concerning our gun rights.

The Tin Foil Hat Brigade often comes out whenever somebody posts something - anything - that seems like it might be good for a laugh. Can be a real feeding frenzy sometimes.

However, and very coincidentally, I was in one of my favorite gun stores today and the owner was making similar noises to what Pickn (do you mind if I call you Pickn?) posted. This is an old guy who has been a dealer for many years and not given to bouts of sudden and spontaneous paranoia.

Like I said, coincidence. The OP lives in Tennessee and I live in Oregon, so the likelihood of these two respective dealers collaborating to start a panic seems pretty unlikely.

Anybody want to offer a tin foil hat to me, have at it.

He might have been referring to the proposed OSHA regulations that would have made transportation and storage of ammunition very, very difficult?
