I just bought one of these stocks for my Moss 500. It is the kind that has a collaspable CAR type stock and a AR-15 style pistol grip built in.
I replaced my ATI pistol grip buttstock with this over the weekend and so far I am pleased. It is the same pistol grip of the other ATI stocks which is a good thing as they are confortable and handle recoil well. Most ATI stuff is not as well thought out as it should be, the SKS stocks are a good example. The shotgun stuff I have seen has been good and I am impressed.
I have a Moss 500 with 18" rifle sighted bbl. If you do not have rifle sights, the stock may prevent you from getting your cheek low enough to see you groove/bead sights on a normal shotgun. The stock comes out at less of an angle than a factory stock so it brings your cheek up a little way. With my rifle sights, it is just perfect as I like a good cheek weld and it falls right in line.
The stock is made compleatly out of plastic so don't expect an aluminum buffer tube or the ability to change the stock or pistol grip. The buttstock will come off but can not be switched to accept real AR-15 stocks. The pistol grip is molded in and does not come off at all. The buttstock can be taken off and you can have a pistol grip only shotgun as well if that is what you want. I think that is a cool feature as most people who buy a pistol grip for their shotgun eventually get rid of it and put some sort of buttstock on the shotgun to make it usefull again. With this set-up, you can get the pistol grip only set-up and then put the buttstock on when you decide it is not as cool as it looks in the movies.
I paid $69.99 + tax at a local gunstore and I think that is as good as it gets because it is new and I saw it in the FAC catalog for the same price + shipping. It seems well made for being all plastic. The grip is one of the only pistol grips other than the Speedfeed inline type that doesn't batter my hand even in from the hip shooting. I think it has to do with the angle being closer to inline than the 90 degree Choate style which is both unconfortable and painfull to shoot. Choate makes great stock but the shotgun pistol grips were designed by a sadist.
The only change I made was to remove the rubber buttpad that is included at shorter the overall length and install a piece of 10 speed inner tube over the pistol grip. I did this on my other ATI stock and it makes it a little better. If you want to spend money, you can always buy a Hogue AR-15 grip cover for about $10 but the inner tube is free and can be fitted to your desires.
If you were thinking about doing the AR-15 thing to your pump, this is an inexpensive way to get it done. The results are comparable to the other set-up that uses real AR-15 parts but this way is lighter and cheaper.
