All,

Question: the current law allows "open carry" not just "concealed carry" as mentioned below, right?
"The fight over a new state law —- one that permits licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons in more public places —- began at Atlanta's city-run airport, the world's busiest with 89 million passengers a year."
SO...
If someone is carrying concealed, what does it matter?
Do people want to carry open at the airport?
If so, is this a good idea?

"Do people want to carry open at the airport?"

Who knows? Probably.

But what this deal is about is not carrying INSIDE the security zones. It's about driving up to pick up or offload passengers and not get hassled. To remain unmolested outside the security zones.

I suggest that in today's world, being seen in open carry anywhere near an airport is extremely foolish. Somebody's gonna jump on a cellphone and the next activity will be an onrush of hostile-attitude security people. Like it or not, that's reality.

On the news tonight the Govenor was saying you can conceal carry in the uncontrolled parts of the airport, and signed the bill stating that. He said on the news people should carry in the airport.(Sonny Perdue is very Pro-Gun)
OTOH, the Atlanta mayor says NO carry at the airport (Shirley Franklin, to busy stealing money-My opinion- and screwing up the city to care about guns). The airport is in Atlanta, and patrolled by Atlanta Police.
I believe open carry is illegal in Georgia. I believe not a good idea.

Be careful about any type of carry in the Atlanta Airport. There is currently a law suit in progress concerning this and until it is settled you may very well be arrested for carrying. Governor Purdue said "In his opinion" you "should" be allowed to carry in non-secured areas. For more info take a look at the following:

That is all too true Art Eatman.

As said before, it would be ill advise for anyone to open carry anywhere near an Airport unless you want to be stopped and questioned repeatedly.

Just because something is legal doesn't mean you can't be arrested anyway. That's exactly the principle the airport is operating on now.

The Georgia law requires you to have a Georgia Firearms License to carry open or concealed - same rules apply to both. The city of Atlanta will lose the lawsuit (airport carry) but that won't prevent them from trying to break more state laws...
