Attempted suicide by cop?

(CBS) PASADENA, Calif. A Pasadena police officer shot and wounded a
man, 25, who allegedly drew a handgun, which was actually a replica
gun, police said Saturday.

The shooting occurred in the area of Fair Oaks Avenue and Orange Grove
Boulevard Friday night, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Officers responded to a call regarding a man carrying a gun and found
the suspect walking north on Fair Oaks Avenue in front of an
automobile shop garage.

The officers ordered the suspect to raise his hands. Instead, the man,
whose name was withheld, allegedly raised and lowered the front of his
shirt several times, exposing what appeared to be a handgun in his
waistband, police said.

The suspect then made a move that caused an officer, fearing for his
safety, to shoot at him, according to police.

The suspect's weapon was determined to be a replica handgun. The
victim was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital and is expected
to survive. There is no indication that the suspect is a gang member.

It was a perfectly good, and uncontroversial shoot, if all the facts are as reported.

I know the area. The hospital is right on the same street a couple of blocks away. If the guy wanted to be suicided, he should have chosen someplace further away from the ER.
