Governor Pataki has proposed and there is legislation in the New York State Legislature to do the following:

1) Charge for new permit $100.
2) All permits now existing will expire after 5 years renewal $100.
3) Remove local caps on costs.
4) Any change to existing permit $25 note that a gun trade in or trade is a delete from the permit and an add to the permit or $50.
5) You will be required to declare any other firearms you own (including long arms).

Help kill this abomination, write your State Senator, and State Assemblyman/Assemblywoman immediately or face the future knowing that long arms will be next and all guns will be too expensive to own.

"declare other firearms " ? does that mean I'll be able carry something like a Mini-14 everywhere I go ?

ATTENTION KANUCKISTAN!!!

FEEL FREE TO TAKE N.Y.

Americans have no real use for it. :barf:

P.S. You have to take Hitlery too, or no deal.

Under the current ny laws...

Here's what happens if you don't keep your paperwork straight...

Flushing man kept arsenal of guns: DA

By Cynthia Koons 02/05/2004

A Queens electrician was arrested on charges of illegally possessing weapons after 69 lethal arms were seized from his Flushing home on Jan. 22, the district attorney said.

Police searched the house of Bruce Steinfelder, 55, on 153-34 58th Rd. in Flushing Jan. 22 where detectives found 44 licensed weapons and 25 unlicensed arms, according to the DA's office.

Steinfelder, who worked as an electrician, was arraigned on Jan. 23 in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second, third and fourth degree as well as possession of rifles and shotguns. He could face up to 15 years in prison if he is convicted.

"According to the charges, the defendant stockpiled deadly weapons including assault weapons, rifles, handguns and shotguns, thereby posing a potential threat to public safety," District Attorney Richard Brown said.

The guns seized by police included 51 pistols, eight assault weapons including one Israeli Military Industries 9mm Uzi, four shotguns and six rifles. Four blackjacks were also confiscated.

Steinfelder's bail was set at $100,000 and his next court date was scheduled for Friday.

Just pathetic!

This man has a moderate collection, by THR standards. He must not have been a prohibited person, for he was granted permits for the majority of his guns. Now looking at 15 yrs in prison, for a paperwork lapse.

Can any of the NY members estimate how much simply registering this man's collection would cost? Is it a one time fee, or must gun permits be renewed periodically?

I shudder to think what the registration cost might be under Pataki's proposal!

thereby posing a potential threat to public safety
Oh yeah, great! Quite frankly -- anyone with a yen to cause a problem with ''public safety'' ..... can do it just fine with one gun .... so why the problem with having more? (OK - apart from the paperwork!).

Glad my safe/office ain't in NY that's for sure!:p

I'm really saddened by this news.

*JimJD chalks up another reason on why He should'nt move back to NYC*

Was talking to My Dad about it a couple of weeks ago, He feels the same way. Hate to sound like a fatalist, but there's a good chance it's going to go through. NY's attitude towards laws, etc. has always been one of: "Oh yeah, what are You going to do about it? Deal with it peasant!"

With that said, I'm happy I moved out of NYC and down to FL. It's been six good months so far. Had a gun dealer at a show tell My father and I: "Welcome to the real America" :)

Have to add one more thing, It's a great feeling to be able to go to any shop that has ammo and buy a box no questions asked. Where in the NYC You'd have to produce a liscense, give a DNA sample, have a retinal scan, have mars in alignment with jupiter, sacrifice a chicken, and having to do the hokey-pokey to wrap it all up! :D

Word has it that Joe Bruno in the Senate is not going to let this abomination go through. The upstaters are getting sick of this nonsense and the Republicans better do something to prevent this crap or they will lose the Senate.
