I have seen some old threads at steyr-aug.com that hint at the notion of replacing the sear spring with a lighter spring to reduce the 9-pound trigger pull into something less ugly.

Has anyone offered springs, or any other product or service to reduce the trigger pull (aside from the slight reduction that slickening the trigger rods and trigger assembly pins can give).

Would there be any demand for a drop-in part product that allowed the user to choose between trigger pulls of about 4, 5.5, 7, and 9 pounds (all in a single part)? What would that be worth, compared to the $70 I have heard quoted for custom springs? I am trying to gauge the demand before investing in further R&D and tooling.

(This would be non-NFA, for semi-auto trigger packs, and would not cause the doubling problems that spring weight experimentation has caused).

Prototype Success!

The lightest pull setting is about 5 pounds, and feels light and sweet. The 6.5 and 7.5 settings also feel nice compared to the stock 9 pound pull.

Next round of prototypes will be refined to improve ease of installation and disassembly, and will probably be changed to have only one intermediate (~7 pound) setting.

Any comments?

I loved the AUG I shot but never had the cash when they were just expensive. Now they're, well, you know.

Anyway, your tooling and production costs must be quite low--do you have any idea how few of those things are in the US, and how underground their owners are? Even with an international market, I don't see very many units moving per year.

As the Glock of Rifles, the AUG is bound to have some market for drop-in trigger improvements. I see your price point for easy sales at between $20 and $30.

That should sell like hotcakes if DSA gets the go ahead to produce a domestic AUG. I would buy one of each if that happened.

Once you have your patent maybe you should talk to DSA about a distribution deal.

There have been about 15,000 semi-autos imported to the US for civilian ownership.

Some have advised that AUG owners are used to getting hosed on parts, and I should price it close to $100. I am inclined to keep it under $50, and attract more buyers.

It would be nifty if domestic production began should the AWB sunset. Then, I'd license the design to the manufacturer, or sell to their new customers.

Trigger Tamer Update

Lightening your AUG trigger is now better than ever!

We have just released the final Trigger Tamer product, in a stronger, slicker material. Our website has a photo of the new product, and glowing reviews from happy customers around the world.

The Trigger Tamer improves the triggers of Steyr USR rifles as well as burst and select-fire Steyr AUGs.

This is the no-brainer "must" have improvement for your AUG rifle. We should charge much more, considering the value of the rifle it improves so greatly, but you can get it for little more than the cost of a magazine.

Check out our sometimes-controversial, but always straight-shooting Trigger Tamer website.
