Aurora, CO Massacre

Like a few others had stated, I too am amazed that no one else was armed. However, truth be said, although I always carry when out and about, I doubt a .380 from a mouse gun would have had much impact unless it was a head, neck, or groin shot in this instance.

It would be interesting to have a poll to determine the thoughts of those geographically closer to the incident. Something like "assault style weapons should be banned" -vs- "more law abiding citizens should carry everywhere it is legal"

Too many weird things going on here. He gains entry through an emergency exit which is pretty difficult unless it is left open, made to stay open by the use of something else, etc. then you have this guy making a video of this mess? Hmmm...I think I would be investigating this guy taking video as well as that seems pretty unlikely that someone in the same room as the terror would start making a video. I mean being out on the street or in the main area making a video vs. making a video in the room this is going on in are two different things. That seems odd to me that someone in such a situation would break out their cell phone and start filming. I am just saying.

If I'm not mistaken I joined THR some time back either when I first bought my Kimber or when I bought my M1A But it's been quite a while since I've been on any of the forums

I just had to air my thought on this incident. Frankly it just makes me sick I heard earlier that the little 6year girl died. You know that little girl was probably really excited to be going out to the movies with her family. I suppose there is some small measure of comfort in that Colorado has the death penalty and this guy will have a front row seat as we process and kill him.

It seems that they held/detained her Father.. he kinda wanted and still wants to wring his neck and put out a call as such.

Watching the Fox interview of chief in police. At first he states that the suspect was apprehended within "a minute to a minute and a half" of the first 911 call. Yet in that amount of time he shot 71 people?? Something doesn't add up..

The 911 calls are first received at 12:39 AM - no telling how much time elapsed from the time he began shooting, but I expect that by the time someone got out their cell phone and called 30 seconds would be a reasonable estimate. The complaint desk officer takes the call and relays the message to the police dispatcher - say within 15 seconds. The police dispatcher sends the call to the patrol and detective units - say another 15 seconds. Then the police chief states that officers were on the scene within 2 MINUTES.

So how many times can you pull the trigger of semiautomatic rifles and handguns in 3 minutes? Evidently, Lots!

Ronc0011, it says you joined today.

Yeah I couldn't remember my login and didn't find a "Forgot your password" link. So I just registered a new username. Which frankly is the username I use almost everywhere these days. Also I don't see a link to quote another users post for instance I don't see a way to include your post in this post. I guess I'm just not familiar with Vbullitin

Note: I just copy & pasted your post and use the "quote " button at the top where other forum systems have "quote link in each post that will automatically include the post in your post.

Start of Ramadan today, I hope that that had NOTHING to do with this.....either way.

The police chief was very forthcoming in his dissemination of information with the exception of explicit prosecutorial evidence. It has probably been the most information given out in a case such as this that I can remember and he is to be commended.

However, I couldn’t help but get the feeling that he was proud the his department’s response time. As these things go the response time was good and may have prevented many more deaths. But lets not miss the lesson here folks - “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”

There's obviously way too much misinformation out there to possibly be discussing this effectively right now.

Yep

LE were present for crowd control at the theater since the midnight showed drew large crowds and would let out large crowds.

If people would actually bother to look at the video most are referring to they'll see isn't taken inside theater 9 where the shooting is taking place. It starts in the lobby and continues outside of the theater. More videos are out there from phone cameras showing much the same. The reports from the other theatergoers in theater 8 say they didn't know what was going on and evacuated at the sound of alarms and the order to evacuate. Most of those people had no idea why they were evacuating the theater and some hoped to get back in to see the rest of the movie until they realized there was a shooting. People turn on their phone cameras/videos for everything these days.

Even the people in theater 9 did not immediately understand they were under fire. Several interviews have aired explaining how several thought it was a prank or stunt and then realized it was real.

We have a thread in Activism Discussion that CoRoMo has pointed to where we're discussing the Anti response.

They can't even get the firearm correct. First I read it was an AK-47, next I read it was an AR-15. Diane Rehm (NPR commentator) asked the question "Should people be allowed to own guns, shotguns, machine guns, tear gas." There will be people screaming about it on both sides. Frankly, I am sick of all the screaming. This is tragic. Bad things happen everyday. I am sick to death of everyone trying to benifit from something like this. The only person to blame for this is the fool who killed all those people.

I've seen that movie (don't waste your time) and the guy never shoots in a movie theater that I can remember.

It does feature the absolute worst case of bottomless mags that I have EVER seen... by far.

...lots of mis-information out there now....

So-called assault weapons are likely to be banned again. ditto for high-capacity magazines.... it is the Clinton era gun controls comming once again.

The local police chief and FBI have concluded it is not a terrorist attack; REALLY?

Folks, Please lets take a day or two and remember the VICTIMS, before we try and second guess what the aftermath of this may be.

Apparently the theater was a "Gun Free Zone". Would that have been illegal to carry under CO law? This event is more proof that putting up a sign does zilch to stop crime.

A terrorist attack usually involves a political motive. No motive has been claimed yet.

He used one gun?

I read that one was left in the theater. I'm thinking that the shotgun was used first until it was empty, dropped, and then he switched weapons. But that's just my speculation.

Would that have been illegal to carry under CO law?

Only if you were asked to leave and then refused. And then it would have been trespassing, not a crime related specifically to carrying.

The kook who shot up the Colorado theater got his programming directly from the above motion picture, exactly!

What's your source? Links between mass murderers and media have been discredited in most cases. We're still awaiting a lot of facts in this case, but past shootings have closer ties to mental illness than to B movies.

I could not agree more, I am a gun owner and a Second Amendment Advocate , I am also a Human Being and Pray for all those affected

Reporting that 2 were purchased at 2 different Gander Mountain and 2 bought at the same Bass Pro shop. Also they had to mention "Purchased a large amount of ammo also". Who are they to decide what a "Large Amount" is?

From the Aurora PD Chief of Police -
•Suspect James Holmes, 24, of Aurora, had one traffic summons for speeding in 2011. Other than that, he had no prior criminal record.
•Within one hour of the shooting early Friday morning, there were approximately 25 officers on the scene who apprehended Holmes.
•There were eventually approximately 200 officers on the scene several hours later.
•Holmes was apprehended with three weapons: one was left inside the crime scene. On his person, Holmes had an AR-15 assault rifle, a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun and a 40-caliber Glock handgun. He had another 40-caliber Glock handgun in his car.
•The police have no capability of estimating the amount of shots fired. There were “many, many shots fired.”
•71 people were shot — 12 are deceased. Two died at area hospitals, 10 died at the scene
•We are not looking for any other suspects, “we are confident that Holmes acted alone.’
•Some rounds penetrated into an adjoining theater — at least one person was struck by a bullet in the adjoining theater
•The suspect was dressed in all black, ballistic attire that included throat, hand and leg covering as well as head and chest protection.
•Anyone with additional information is being encourage to call a tip line at 303-739-1862. For those who feel traumatized, you can call a help line at 303-617-2300.
•The crime scene is large, and includes some cars in the parking lot. The police are working to get those cars released, but “we will be (at the crime scene) for some time.”
•Holmes’ Paris Street apartment is booby-trapped with trip wire, incendiary devices and chemical devises. Five buildings in the area have been evacuated.
•There were four showings of “The Dark Knight Rises” at the theater. All were sold out. Police interviewed close to 200 witnesses.
•Police are analyzing all social media — there are a lot of fake reports. Someone called a national media station and said he was Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates.
•Police were on scene within a minute to a minute and a half of the first call and apprehended Holmes at that point.
•Aurora police often station off-duty officers at the theater. They were not there last night
•“We’re not going to get into why (Holmes) did what he did. We don’t have that information,” Oates said.
•“There is pretty significant evidence he used the assault rifle, shotgun and handgun in the theater,” Oates aid.
