Yup.
Where you will be greeted at the door with:

Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.

Also the Gun Show is now in one of the worst neighborhoods in town, so we ,the law abiding, will be unarmed when leaving.
Not that big a deal in the summer, but in the winter months when it gets dark at 5:30, and you parked next to the fence on the north end of the lot.........
No thanks, they do not want my money.

10,000 block of North Lamar. Little dump called Marketplace Austin.Combo flea market/ get yourself a grill made while your super bass subwoofer gets installed.
I used to work security out there on their teen hip hop nights during the summer{ Now I am an Instructor and dont work posts} on Friday and Saturday nights.
On weekend evenings it is a banger hangout.

It's in the old Sam's Club building. More room than the old Best Product on a bad part of Hwy. 290.

But really, why would gun owners boycott everyplace else that posts the 30.06 sign, but give the gunshow a pass?

Interesting. So, it's NOW in one of the worst parts of town? It wasn't before? Seriously, while I wouldn't want to live there (though I have in the past: Coppermill Apts.), that immediate area is pretty tame.

Moving to the old Sam's building was an upgrade for the gun show. It now has more tables and a better facility.

The reason the show has a 30.06 sign is that a while back, some idiot managed to fire a round from his "concealed" pistol in the middle of the show. The sign is now required by Saxet's insurance. Cry about it all you want, but it's a clear case of one idiot ruining it for everyone.

Anybody here remember when they used to be at the old monster quonset hut (City Colosseum) down on Town Lake?

I spent many an afternoon there with dad. Wish I could go back in time and pick up some of the Garands, 1903's, and M1's that could be had for cheap. We'd check out the show, and then head over to the Palmer Auditorium for the hot rod show. Dad was into custom knives and custom hot rods. Never bought any of either really, but sure liked looking at them with me.

While I haven't been to the saxet show here in Austin, I would agree that the new location is about 10x worse than the old as far as security/risk/danger.

Aw, that north end of the world has never been the world's most peaceful. :)

They've torn down the old Skyline Club building, but back in the 1930s my uncle used to drag LBJ's brother Sam Houston Johnson out of there before some cedar-chopper took a knife to him...

So they get a pass because of "insurance"?:scrutiny:
The same people who will move their $600 checking account to a CHL neutral bank, will give Saxet 5 bucks every mont to get questionable deals on ammo, guns , and "collectables".
Really guys,{and gals}, if you want to boycott buisness that posts 30.06, you need to do it and get everyone else to do it as well. Personally, any gun buisness that does not allow a CHL holder to carry in their store needs none of our $$$.:banghead:

The idiot in question was a vendor.
When I called and asked why this was posted, I got a woman who sounded as old as Methusula who told me" We dont want another shooting spree, it has happened before."

I have my CHL, but I don't care so much that they posted the gunshow. To be honest with you, I don't feel the need to carry there anyway. Yeah, it's the principle of the thing, I know, but you'd be hard pressed to make the argument that the gunshow is anti-gun.

I'm sure it's the insurance thing, not to mention the bad bad press that comes if/when someone gets killed by an AD at a gunshow. I'd rather not give the real antis that kind of bad press, I'd like to see gunshows stick around for a while and not legislated into non-existence.

I thought that all Satex shows posted a sign at the door about no live ammo and presenting all guns for inspection and being strapped.

The show has never been the same since the City threw them out of the coliseum.

That sign was up the next show after the guy AD'ed himself in the butt with a .40. Question though, I guess its that same rule no matter which city Saxtet is being held in, not just Austin?

It's the only place in town I can buy an AK reciever, but I see your point...it's a little ironical.

I'm not real big on the 30.06 signs either, so I've only been making the trip to Austin a couple times a year. I was there last month and was really surprised at how high the prices were compared to the gun shops in the Killeen area. Other than the opprtunity to drool on some cool stuff, the trip was a waste of fuel.

And of course such signs, not meeting the requirements of PC30.06, mean nothing for TX CHL holders.

It was my understanding that the incident prompting a PC30.06 sign involved some interaction between a vendor and an LEO, and the negligent discharge resulted in a flesh wound for some uninvolved third party . . . LEO involvement would explain why the incident was a basic "non-issue" for the local media, much like the "I'm the only one professional enough . . . " DEA ND in a school was largely ignored by the major media other than FNC.

I'll have to agree with others that have said its not the worst neighborhood in town. Far from it ... I'll show you plenty of areas worse than that on the east and south sides of town :).

I have no fear going there, especially in the daytime, unlike some other parts of town.

Anybody here remember when they used to be at the old monster quonset hut (City Colosseum) down on Town Lake?

Yep. I used to go there with my dad when I was a kid. It would'a been in the early/mid-eighties, I think, so maybe we were at some of the same shows, Lonestar.

My dad never bought any guns that I can recall, but he sure bought a lot of old Case and Eye Brand knives. I wish it were still the Gun and Knife show.

the old monster quonset hut (City Colosseum)

Ah yes- the place I purchased my 1st weapon ever. Ruger Security Six- minus grips, cause I bought Pachmyers a few tables down. Still have that gun. I remember seeing George Thorogood in concert in the same place.

Elric: interesting screen name. You wouldn't know anyone named "Gordon" would you?

That "quonset hut" was a WW II blimp hangar.

I did the Don&Deressa Hill shows, there, as well as in the basement of the City Auditorium.

When you're doing buy/sell/trade with both coins and guns, and you have two or three people at yoour table at the same time trying to do deals in all directions, it's an adrenalin rush. :) Real money, not virtual. You gotta appraise, figure costs and profits, and try to keep guys separate when they're right in front of you--and all in a very short time.

Bad coffee and "gut bomb" hotdogs don't help matters...
