but is a bit too much for me to commit to without ever personally seeing a single example.

Agreed, they look sweet in the photos....but I would need to check one out in person/and or hear a few customer reports before jumping in given the guns price points.

I'm definitely interested though.

You can buy Enfields rechambered for .308 for a lot less than this.
While I like these guns... I'm going to pass. Way too much for what it really is.

Hmmmm, personal experience? I handled them and found them to be a HEAVY Enfield. That's about it. They are better made by far, but that requires something to have been wrong with the first ones. They have deleted many machining operations for the sake of cost and the receiver is therefore chunkier, uglier, and a heavier. The barrel is a bull barrel from what I could tell. Inserting the M1A magazine was a bit cumbersome and operating the release lever was awkward. There is no anchor for the front of the magazine, you simply insert the mag into the gun and hope the close tolerances and rear latch hold it there. I can stripper-clip load an Enfield faster than I can change the magazine on this new gun.

The salesman told me in a funny Aussie accent that they had made the receivers 'stiffer' by eliminating the lightening cuts. Funny, I thought it just made the gun cheaper for them to make.

Trigger, sights? Sights seemed more refined and stronger. Didn't test the trigger. Stocks were excellent as was overall fit, and finish. Remember too that these are prototype guns dolled up for display at the show so you must take that with a grain of salt.

It's not that I don't like it, I just think it's overpriced and overweight. These are observations. I would probably buy one for around $400 bucks or thereabouts.

Very neat, but overpriced IMHO. Get nearer to $400 and I'm interested.

$600-$800 will buy you a genuine DCRA 7.62 No4 out of Canada, which I'd be more inclined to own....the DCRA will climb very high in value, whereas these probably will not. Heck, for around $1000 you can own a Parker Hale T4 or an Enfield Envoy, both of which are very classy enfield commercial guns.

I'm also disappointed in the "slab look" cheapness of these, for the $$ I'd expect a faithful reproduction of the No4 receiver.

Just the .02 of an Enfield nut.

If these are built to the same quality as the original Commonwealth Enfields, (I don't count that Indian/Gibbs junk though), then I think they might be worth the money. Considering what it involves to make a rifle of this type.
People scream for quality then they scream when they see the cost of it.

Now these are new guns we're talking about right?

If the rifle was priced around $400, then maybe it would be a good value, but for near a grand, its not worth considering.

at 759 MSRP, they're practically a steal.

Chrome lined barrel.

useable iron sights.

uses magazines you already have.

calibers can be changed easily (savage style headspacing system and replaceable bolt head)

there are inferior rifles that cost more than this does.

Now these are new guns we're talking about right?

yes. 100% newly manufactured.

I'd certainly like one of those rifles but the cost seems rather steep.

Why can't a company like Savage produce them right here? Maybe if enough of us sign on we can convince a company here to make them.

For a brand-new-production Lee-Enfield the price isn't too bad ($600 US or something like that?) considering how much goes into making one..... and the nice wood stock.

The Lightening cuts could be done by someone familiar with L-Es and the action refinished you know..... :)

I have a No.4 Mk1 and I love it. A .308 twin would be nice... hmmm...if they actually make it to the US, I may have to consider it. Tristar supposedly was going to make replica Winchester 1887 leveraction shotguns, but I never heard them making it to the US.

Not surprising, these rifles have - at best - a mixed reputation. Especially the ones in 7.62x39 (serious feed problems).

Found Canadian dealer

Check out www.marstar.ca . I handled a No 4 mk IV recently while on vacation in New Zealand and found them to be very well constructed. Maybe even better than the originals chambered in .303 . I already own a few rifles chambered in 7.62x51 & the idea of this rifle eating out of the same box has a nice appeal. Does anyone know about importing weapons legally into the U.S. from Canada?
