Auto-5 needs a little work

Every A5 (old style that is) I've ever looked at, as well as my own, has looked like this at the breech:

and I learned from Mark (youtube: 'Anvil 071') that it's because the barrel, as it returns to battery, mashes the fore-end thusly:

Mark suggests a fix involving fabbing a steel spacer to fill the squashed-in space you see just beyond the paper label. I was wondering if an easier fix, simply filling the area with Accraglas or equivalent would work just as well?

Art, of Art’s Gun Shop, says nothing works. But I think he meant nothing works permanently. Let us know how, and for how long, it works out.
 
One option is the Ramline plastic stock. The forend has piece of firm rubber tubing that acts as a nice bump stop. And the plastic stock is practically indestructible, even if it doesn't look like nice wood. The wood eventually cracks.
