Anyone here own an Auto Ordnance 1911 pistol? How do you like them? Anything significantly better or worse than say, an Armscor, Taurus, Kimber, or other 1911? I know Kimber is the High Quality 1911, so where would you rank an AO below it?

Auto Ordnance 1911s (are they still made?) used to be about where Armscor is now, I think. A good basic 1911, but they suffered from poor QC. IOW, not necessarily a good buy gun.

Didn't Kahr merge with Auto Ordnance? If so, I think QC could have changed for the better. The Kahr/AO I purchased a couple years ago is top notch.

In the '80s when I was working as a gunsmith, the Auto Ordnance guns were sold by Numrich out of West Hurley, NY. I don't know who was making the guns for them then, but, in general, the metal was as soft as butter.

The guns were safe enough, but just didn't hold up to extended use.

they are now made by Kahr and are high quality and decent customer-service , nothing at all like the old numrich models - they now are in the Springer/S&W field
