I've recently seen some apparently new Kahr/Auto Ordnance GI 1911's that have a pattern of scratches or wear on their slides, as if they had been dragged on a rough surface. I first saw this on one for sale at a gun show about a month ago. It was attractively priced (new with tags), but I had to pass on it because of the blemish. Since then, I have seen others. What could have caused this?

To explain what I'm talking about, here's a slide currently on sale on ebay (although it's not nearly as bad as the one I saw at the gun show):

"Apparently - new old stock - unused" on Ebay means anything the seller wants you to believe. Ebay is worse than a used car lot. I used to buy stuff off Ebay. Not any more. Anyone can put anything on Ebay and describe it any way they choose and find a sucker to sell it to.

I agree that the ebay market is hit or miss. Nevertheless, the pictures plus the seller's feedback are good indications as to what you'll probably get.

I posted the link to show what the blemishes on these Kahr slides look like. I'm not saying that this damage is typical of Kahr slides, but some that I saw in person are like this, but much worse. (And these were clearly new guns, with tags and everything.) It's as if someone took coarse sandpaper and ran it the length of the slide.

Two questions --
Anyone else see something like this, or am I the only one?
Any theories as to what may have caused this? Surely Kahr's quality control isn't this bad?
