Anybody here have any experiences they would share about this rifle currently being produced by the Auto Ordnance division of Kahr Arms in Worcester, Mass? I am interested in purchasing this rifle, more for the joy of shooting than for a collectors item to be looked at and never used. I understand it is not nearly the collectors item that an original production M1 Carbine would be, but again my intent is to get a "shooter", not a "look-but-don't toucher". Is it a decent buy at around $650? How does it function? Any problems? The particular model I have my eye on is the AOM130 (Walnut furniture, 15rd mag). Any feedback would be welcomed and appreciated:)

Cheers

I have an earlier model that is more of a Korean war reproduction. It is a serviceable gun and a fun shooter that I paid about $550 for a few years ago. At the time GI M1s were running $650 - 700 in my area and even those were beat to hell and gone. The AO M1 seemed like a better alternative to me.

Mine runs ok. Every once in a while I'll get a failure to extract. I try to clean around the extractor regularly and frankly the ""cheap" .30 carbine ammo I put through it probably doesn't help.

Bought one about 2 months ago, and it works great. I changed out the rear sight with one from Numrich that is adjustable. Shoots very well. I have been wanting a Carbine for years, and descided to go for a new one instead of the CMP Carbines. Mine was $629, which is a bit pricy, but so is gas at $2.80/gallon. Both are only going to get more expensive.

I bought mine new over a year ago from a private party. It had a few problems so I sent it back to Kahr Arms for repair under warranty. The front barrel band kept coming off after a few rounds, the rear sight was loose and the trigger was very heavy and gritty. The bolt and slide assembly started showing a lot of wear after less than 50 rounds. The rifle now shoots well after I got it back. It is very accurate and has been reliable so far. The trigger is still crappy though. I would buy it again because the price of a USGI carbine is twice the price I paid.

If you can't make a run up to the CMP in person for one of their Inlands, then sure. I'm planning on getting up to the north store come Thursday for mine, and it's going to be a shooter--no "safe queens" for me, plus it's a mixmaster nad not worth much. Ah well. Though, I have read on the CMP site that the ones with bayo lugs tend to shoot better for some reason. But, if you can get it for $650, it might be worth looking into; around here, they're $750 (and to me, not worth the extra cash).

No long-term experience, just a few rounds fired through one. I liked it, and if I hadn't lucked onto a GI one a month later, I'd have bought a Kahr.

I believe the QC is better on the ones made by Auto Ordinance but mine was an IMI. It had some problems but IMI had bigger problems and they went under. I eventually got an accurate, reliable carbine. It has an ugly birch stock. The rear sight comes loose at times. I paid $399 several years ago in San Leandro, CA.
