I think I just found a kick a** load with the Hornady XTP 180 grain. 6.3 grains of Unique gave me between 950-980 fps out of my 3.25" Taurus Millenium Pro.:D Thats a good, strong load. I figure my 4" XD-40 will push these at about 1050 fps, I'll find out next week when I chrono them out of the XD.

I've been a big fan of the 155's for awhile now, but now I'm rethinking that. I chrono'd my factory Winchester Ranger 155's out of the Mil-Pro at 1030-1050 fps. I'm thinking a 180 grain at 950+ would be a better performer, given the weight and mass advantage.

Sometimes I carry my Mil-Pro when I'm out hiking the backcountry (Colorado), because my 357 is just alot heavier and bulkier. These 180 grain XTP's are what I'll be carrying.:D

If you are interested in an accurate low flash 180gr load at a velocity of 1100+fps, check out VihtaVuori powders.

Is that out of short barreled pistols as mentioned Shoney? I have a S&W CS40 auto that I'll have to give some of these loads a try in. Thanks for sharing Redneck.

VihtaVuori overstates their velocities in my experience with their powders, but maybe you can get that in the .40 with their stuff. 3N37 or N350.

I would try Silhouette, True Blue or AA#9 if I was looking for max velocities in the .40 with 180 Gr. Bullets.

Thats the same load I'm using very low flash for night shooting. The recoil is low enough for fast double taps. I get 1060 with my P226. I can get 1150 with Longshot but the recoil is more and the flash is more. I think the 6.3 Unique is a good balance of power recoil and flash,

Thanks,Keith
