It's getting cold out here, so I'd like to move my shooting indoors if possible. Unfortunately, the indoor range prohibits jacketed ammo. So here's my question: Is it OK to shoot lead bullets in a Baby Eagle 9mm?

According to the manual, the barrel has polygonal rifling. I didn't see a specific prohibition on lead, but I was wondering if the Glock Principle of ammo selection should be applied here as well.

Thanks in advance.

I've got one at home I bought brand new (actually an UZI Eagle when Mossberg imported them). I can check my owners manual when I get home at lunchtime and get back to you this afternoon.

Mark - how old is your Baby Eagle?

I ask because the polygonal rifling was changed a few years ago, and the newer ones have conventional rifling in the barrel. I just can't recall when they ended up changing over.

You could always call Magnum Research to see what they say about the lead bullets.

Well, my owners manual doesn't say anything about avoiding lead or cast bullets. Mine was manufactured during the polyagonal bore period.

The current versions, as D-man pointed out, have conventional rifling.

Now the current FAQ page says this....

What ammunition is recommended for use in my Baby Eagle pistol?
Any commercial factory ammunition in full-metal jacket or semi-jacketed (ex. American Eagle, Winchester, Remington, FMC, Hornady, UMC). We do not recommend the use of these ammunitions: Wolf (lacquered steel cases, poor QC) and Sellier & Bellot (very "dirty" ammunition).

Can I shoot +P or +P+ in by Baby Eagle pistol?
No, the pistol is not designed for this type of ammunition.

Can I shoot reloads in my Baby Eagle pistol?
I am sorry we do not offer any reloading information since we do not recommend reloading in any of our products. Any use of reloads (problems caused by them) will void the warranty on any MRI product. However, if you are going to reload we suggest you strictly follow all safe reloading information in a good up to date reloading manual.
