ok,depending on who you talk to
1)never shoot lead from a glock
2)shoot lead and clean the crap out of the barrel
3)buy a different barrel
so what gives?I just joined a range that insists on lead ammo indoors(side effects be damned)and I was wondering what the real deal was.
thanks.

glocks, kahr, and h&k use polygonal rifled barrels, as opposed to conventional riflings, they make more more accurate barrels but they do increase the amount of leading in the barrels. it is advised that you don't shoot lead through them, this even comes from the companies themselves.

now if i owned a glock and wanted to shoot lead then i would get an aftermarkey barrel.

with that said i have a family friend that all he has veer shot through his glock is lead rds and he has had no issues, but not something that i would do.

I've seen a Glock Kaboom after shooting lead reloads, so I'd just buy an aftermarket barrel if I insisted on doing that. That's a big investment to follow by cheaping out, and trying to prove the owners manual wrong.

Lead is going to fill in the grooves (I know they're not the same shape as the grooves in a traditional bore) over time, and increase pressure behind the bullet. Yes you could probably clean the lead out pretty effectively, and yes the recommendation from the mfg's is mostly a CYA thing, as most any knucklehead would know not to let his bore get leaded.
But... I don't shoot lead in my H&K, and if I had a Glock I wouldn't put lead in it either. Lead will accumulate in alot of other places you don't want it, too. I've seen FTF's in semi-autos where lead accumulated on the feed ramp and caused stoppages with flat nosed ammo and/or JHP's.
If you insist on shooting lead, hard is better than soft, and low velocity is better than high velocity.
MHO: leave the unjacketed stuff for the revolvers.

As a mega-Glock owner here's my two cents. In all calibers except .40 a little lead with good clean-up equals no problem, mind you, with good clean-up!
As to the .40's, purchase a lone wolf or comprable barrel for shooting lead or even reloads. I never fire lead in my .40 factory barrel's, ever! Of all the KB BS that floats the web, this is the one I place greatest emphasis on. The .40's and lead are not a good marriage......Good luck.............................

Don't shoot lead in Glock factory barrels is the best way to go IMHO. The reason I have bought several barrels (6 " variety), that are designed for lead if I chose to do so.;)

I shot lead for awhile in my glock 17. I decided to play it on the safe side and bought a lone wolf barrel. Seems like the LW barrel is just as accurate as the factory barrel. I have about 5000 moly coated bullets to reload so that is a factor. Mark
