Yes, this is related to guns and shooting.

I'm trying to find some shooting related activities for a bachelor party coming up. We're a fairly competitive group of guys, so think Top Shot, but with one caveat - we can't really get our hands on ammo because of the recent shortage. Any ammo we do have, I'd prefer to not obligate them to burn it up on something as trivial as this. Also, no worries on the mixing of alcohol and weapons, we'll save the drinks for when the smoke clears and everything is locked up.

Here's what I've got so far... We're planning on doing a little clay pigeon shooting - probably a few games of knock out. I also thought about doing some long distance shots with either mosins or muzzleloaders. I've even thought of doing a "ye olde thrice gun" course with a sling shot, throwing tomahawks, and bow and arrows. But that's about where my ideas end. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!

something as trivial as this

The guy is getting married, having a party for his pals is hardly trivial.

Cabela's has .22lr Just tell each guy he has to bring 50 rounds of .22lr himself and you'll handle the rest.

Mix shotgun with .22 rifle and pistol and you can probably get out without loosing your shirt.

Skydiving trip followed by paintball wars. Gets you lots of trigger time, fun stories, and amole opportumity for trash talk afterward.

Sounds like a great idea. I was best man for my roommates wedding, and I took him and a group of guys out shooting. We did an early afternoon shoot (my guns my ammo), and we didn't shoot nearly as much as I thought we would. Mostly we just enjoyed hanging out at the range and watching each other shoot.

Dang, hso, you got my hopes up, but the link is to .22 Mag.

....and now sold out.

What about pellet guns?

Shot gun ammo seems pretty available at nearly the same prices.

I like the idea of throwing knives, tomahawks etc and sling shots too.

Do you have lazertag in your area?

Fill a fishbowl full of mixed ammo. Guess how many rounds are in the bowl for a prize.

Bikini girl hostage targets as gifts if you can't find ammo.

Ok second and final warning. Keep it gun related. No more jokes about strippers or anything not gun related, if this is too difficult then you will earn an infraction for your troubles.

For my brother's party we went hog hunting in Texas. I took one with my 45-70.

"What about pellet guns?"

I was going to suggest a pair of inexpensive spring Airsoft pistols. You can have what my sons and I called Tin Can Races (with real guns). First one to bounce the tin can over a line wins. Except you can use nerf balls or ping pong balls or whatever for targets and you can do it indoors.

And drinking would be OK.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, have a good plan-B so it's not a complete disappointment.

An indoor range here is available for private events, has ammo, and can set up any of their usual games. But if too pricey, or no suitable range near you, then Plan-B needs additional thought.

As mentioned before, shotgun ammo seems abundant. How about a trap/skeet competition?

This sounds more like an organized shooting event than a Bachelor party. Since it has none of the things a normal Bacehlor party would contain, so why not just call it an event for a guy who's getting married. It's quite normal for planning a Bachelor party to include the things that we have been asked not to mention. It's a shooting party, since every bachelor party I ever went to had the women and liquor, it can't be classified as such.
You want to plan some sort of group shooting event for your buddy who happens to be getting married. Please don't blame the members for being creative with the obvious things that one would consider included in such an event.

That's unfortunate. It doesn't necessarily have to be so. Furthermore, it seems to undermine rather than honor the next day's events. I've experienced both types of partys/events. A much better time was had at the range, golf course, etc.

Most of the indoor ranges I have been to can organize an event like a bachelor party with the range reserved for the party, firearms and ammo, a meeting room/classroom reserved, and a host of shooting related activities for the occasion.

Do a little research, and it might be both easier and cheaper than doing it all yourself.

Just my .02,

after the shotgun shoot, bbq sum tasty animal.beef, deer, coon, goat is best rite after hog.maybe a brisket? yu didnt say what your age range of attendees would be.bbq brisket always trumps strippers if your in the 45 yr old plus range.let the beer flow and make sure everyone has a ride home.

you could do a egg shoot! if yur a bunch of gun nuts. everybody puts in sum money, eggs at 100 yrds. shoot them. those who hit go on to 125 yrds.and so on. winner takes all. dirt bike drag races, 4 wheeler drag races, can yu tell yet im a hillbilly? it would be pretty easy to make a day long event for cheap. all yu need is 40 acres.you guys would talk about it for years.and not git in trubble with the bride, well unless the groom gets injured of course.

One of the lesser written rules about parties and shooting is to let EVERYONE know that the drinking starts AFTER the shooting is finished, and if someone comes already liquored up, they don't shoot. For the safety (and liability) of all.

Having personally lost a close family member to an alcohol-related shooting accident, I agree.

Thanks to a few vodka-lemonades I got to see my aunt and cousin's life ripped apart. He was going to bed, picked up his 45 off the kitchen counter, turned, lost his balance. Reached back to catch himself, finger entered trigger guard.

As he grabbed the counter, it cammed the muzzle upwards torqueing his finger against the trigger.

Sent a 230gr XTP through his spine, severed his aorta, he died on the spot in my aunts arms.

My grandfather and I went out to clean up the house when it was unsealed by the police. He took care of the blood and discarded latex gloves, I took care of the guns he had scattered about the house.

Don't drink and handle firearms. It's not enough not to drink and shoot; but don't HANDLE them if you've been drinking. Put them away. THEN drink.

That is a terrible tradgedy, sorry for your loss. It shows that guns and booze don't mix, whatever the event is called or not called. When I plan on drinking "never heavily for the past 20 years", but I make sure the guns are locked away. You can't start drinking and plan to do it later.
Guns should not be a part of any party where liquor is going to be consumed in large quantities, Party or not. Once you are drunk you are asking for an accident to happen. Even coming and going to such an event should be done unarmed, and by using a limo or party bus.
You don't want a bunch of guys half in the bag driving home either.
