I don't understand what the back-pocket carry had to do with making this situation worse. Please explain.
I don't understand either. If he never saw it coming, he could have had the gun in his hand and it wouldn't make a difference.

I lost a wallet from a back pocket. Then, it happened again. Both times, the wallet was found in the car seat, where I had been sitting. I have found wallets left by others in my car seats, at least three times I can recall. I lost a Surefire light from a back pocket, and it was never seen again, at least not by me.Hmmmmm?
Maybe thats why I have never lost my wallet out of my hip pocket in the close to 60 years I have been old enough to carry a wallet?
I better watch out!
My time must be coming.

I reckon we are all built differently, wear different trousers, and have different activities that may increase the chance of a loss from a back pocket.

Back Pocket Carry
I've heard some of the guys on the forum say they carry in the back pocket. How's that work? Are you guys on your feet all day? I just can't imagine sitting on a gun being comfortable or good for the gun in long run. So, who actually back pocket carries and what do you do about sitting?
DeSantis Superfly - has a velcro cover that completely un-prints anything holstered. Even with my bony butt, it's not uncomfortable to sit on all day.
I use a Desantis nemesis and it's tough and well made holster.

Be careful carrying in back pocket while driving. If you are in a rear-end collision it can cause a chronic back injury. 1st hand knowledge.
Um, do you mean carrying at 4 or 6 O'clock - say on a belt? I can't see how carrying in the back pocket of a pair of pants cause back injuries in a car accident. Maybe if the person fell on their butt and landed on something hard like concrete or ice... I'm not saying it didn't happen to you, but how???
I'll drop mine in my back pocket for a quick jaunt outdoors if I don't feel like putting the holster on but that's it.
The thread is titled "Back Pocket Carry" and that's the subject I am trying to contribute to. See link below. The sacroilliac joint connects the lumbar to the pelvis and is located on each side of one's back in the proximity of where your back pockets are. If you are carrying a lump of metal there while stopped in your car at a light and your leg is immobilized by pressing the brake pedal and a pickup truck rams you from behind at a high rate of speed, the energy of that impact is transferred through that lump of metal into your back...much the same way as if you were to fall on concrete as you mentioned.Um, do you mean carrying at 4 or 6 O'clock - say on a belt?
