Back Pocket Carry

I don't understand what the back-pocket carry had to do with making this situation worse. Please explain.

I don't understand either. If he never saw it coming, he could have had the gun in his hand and it wouldn't make a difference.

Hmmmmm?

Maybe thats why I have never lost my wallet out of my hip pocket in the close to 60 years I have been old enough to carry a wallet?

I better watch out!
My time must be coming.

I lost a wallet from a back pocket. Then, it happened again. Both times, the wallet was found in the car seat, where I had been sitting. I have found wallets left by others in my car seats, at least three times I can recall. I lost a Surefire light from a back pocket, and it was never seen again, at least not by me.

I reckon we are all built differently, wear different trousers, and have different activities that may increase the chance of a loss from a back pocket.

I didn't mean to say it made it worse. He was the Firearms instructor for the department and was excellent with firearms, You know how it is, you run things over in your mind for years about things. The only witness to the actual shooting was the shooter until the neighbors started looking out the windows, then he was already down and the shooter shot the wife.

I just wondered if he tried to get it out or not and it slowed him down. Of course the shooter is in under an insanity plea, and isn't talking.

It was nothing against back pocket carry or not. Sometimes nothing would matter.

I have a bad habit of carrying stuff around in my back pockets. Thats usually where my iPhone and car keys are. I don't really carry a wallet, just my ID, bank card and cash in a clip. I've never understood how people lugged around those costanza sized wallets (Seinfeld reference).

I do carry in my back pocket. I also take my gun out of my back pocket when driving further than around town. My Doctor told me to take my wallet out of my pocket when driving. I would assume that means concealed handguns as well.

A properly made pocket holster will have something on it or done to it to keep it in the pocket when you draw. The same would apply to it just sliding out. Wallets are smooth leather and can easily slip out but a well made pocket holster would not, under similar circumstances.

I know of two people who have a Seacamp 380 which they carry in a wallet type holster in their back pockets. Im carry a Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster but not in my back pocket.

Have a look at pocket holsters. A good start would be PocketHolsters.com

Mine doesn't print or allow the .32 mini blaster to turn sideways or turn top side down. The handle is always at the top. Even when I can't carry, with this, I just might.

I spend most of my time in a boots and jeans enviornment. Dunno how this would work for you. Just guessing, but maybe it'd depend on the size of your pocket and what you put into it.

A bandana has lots of utility.

I used to work retail and had to wear a tucked in polo.

Back pocket was all I had.

Kept a Guardian 380 in a pocket holster.

Not ideal....trust me

Back Pocket Carry
I've heard some of the guys on the forum say they carry in the back pocket. How's that work? Are you guys on your feet all day? I just can't imagine sitting on a gun being comfortable or good for the gun in long run. So, who actually back pocket carries and what do you do about sitting?

DeSantis Superfly - has a velcro cover that completely un-prints anything holstered. Even with my bony butt, it's not uncomfortable to sit on all day. :)

That might actually be a viable option for back pocket carry. I use a Desantis nemesis and it's tough and well made holster. With the Velcro wrap around I might not be as worried about sitting on it.

I use the Desantis Nemesis holster also in the back pocket when carrying the silly LCP....It works great with blue jeans, just ok with looser fitting and flimsier cargo pants/shorts.

I sit on it regularly and it doesn't hurt a thing. I suppose if you weigh 350lbs. it might be an issue. :what:

Front pocket carry sucks IMO....Back pocket carry with the Nemesis is much more comfortable to me and it can still be accessed very quickly and inconspicuously.

Be careful carrying in back pocket while driving. If you are in a rear-end collision it can cause a chronic back injury. 1st hand knowledge.

Um, do you mean carrying at 4 or 6 O'clock - say on a belt? I can't see how carrying in the back pocket of a pair of pants cause back injuries in a car accident. Maybe if the person fell on their butt and landed on something hard like concrete or ice... I'm not saying it didn't happen to you, but how???

I think carrying in the back pocket is exactly what he meant. I can see how someone could be injured in a car accident from it.

I back pocket daily .SEECAMP 32. or BERETTA 21A. In the pocket always.

Just for short trips to wally world, piggly wiggle, etc, to keep from being unarmed.

In the yard and fields while wearing sweat pants(no belt), back pocket carry in a DeSantis nemesis holster fills the bill because bending forward usually compress the gun into the thigh and anterior hip when utilizing front pocket carry - not very comfortable for me.

In town -- NEVER. I would hate to provide a pickpocket with the wherewithal to make him a whole lot more dangerous.

The thread is titled "Back Pocket Carry" and that's the subject I am trying to contribute to. See link below. The sacroilliac joint connects the lumbar to the pelvis and is located on each side of one's back in the proximity of where your back pockets are. If you are carrying a lump of metal there while stopped in your car at a light and your leg is immobilized by pressing the brake pedal and a pickup truck rams you from behind at a high rate of speed, the energy of that impact is transferred through that lump of metal into your back...much the same way as if you were to fall on concrete as you mentioned.

It's not a fun injury to deal with and like other chronic problems you learn to live with it on a daily basis. Even mundane activities like weeding or washing the dog can result in a lot of swelling and pain.
