Not to be politically correct, but they are technically called "suppressors" as they aren't anywhere near quiet. If you really want #4 use the correct language so that the anti-gun paranoids won't be so hesitant to approve it.

Actually, the term used by the law and the ATF NFA handbook is silencer. The Brits also call auto mufflers "silencers" even tho' mufflers, suppressors and "silencers" only reduce the noise below ear damage level.

Ironically, you'll encounter NFA owners who would fight against opening up the machine gun ban. There is no shortage of folks who would put their fiscal investment ahead of increasing liberty.

Guns that were priced in 1985 at less than the registration tax ($200)--rewatted Reising Model 50, tube-built Form 1 Sten guns--are now priced at $2,000 to $3,000. NFA collectors/investors would fight reopening the NFA registry to new guns and Form 1 builds to protect their investment.

That pretty much shows that many people put principles ahead of all else, as long as those principles don't inconvenience them.

@Carl Yeah but that's the ATF. The same clowns that seized a shipment of airsoft guns because they were easily convertible into "fully functioning firearms". LOL

For a government agency, the ATF sure seems to know absolutely nothing about firearms. We need to just abolish the ATF, they're a waste of tax dollars.

I tend to disagree. Very few people own NFA items purely as an investment. (This market is not very liquid.) People have always bought machine guns and other NFA items because they liked them for their own sake. The runup in prices was just an unexpected bonus. I bet if you did a survey of NFA owners, the vast majority would prefer to be able to add to their collections rather than sit on their monetary gains.

I own a bunch of machine guns and I hope and pray for the day that more new ones can be produced. Life is not only about money.

Clowns?
Not by a long shot......those "airsoft" receivers WERE capable of being used exactly as a real AR lower receiver. In which case they needed to be treated as any other imported firearm.

ATF was doing exactly what they were supposed to do. It isn't hard to find an example of ATF incompetence, but in the case you refer to they were correct.
