I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so here goes.

Check out the photo. Have you dealt with an ammo manufacturer (Remington in this case) when you discovered defective and dangerous ammo? I'm wondering if I should just forget it or should I make an issue of it?

I brought a friend to the range and he was using my AR. He noticed and showed me the bad round. I was pretty upset by it, but I wonder what anyone else's experience might be in dealing with Remington? I mean, I don't see a point in mailing them this round and then having them mail me a replacement.

Thoughts?

Give them a call with the lot # from the box. I'll bet they make it more than right, especially remington. Unlikely they will want you to go through the hassle of shipping but I could be wrong. They would likely issue a refund check or coupon for replacement ammo. Do check your spent brass if you have any out of that lot and check your chamber if you used any of the bad rounds to be sure you didn't get any odd gas cutting in your chamber. I'd guess no though.

Good catch by your buddy!

Be safe

You need to inform the manf of that and include the lot# of the ammo. The will need to reissue a recall of that whole lot(IMHO) of ammo.

Do NOT fire as the casing will split most of the way down and cause bad ju-ju. For that matter don't fire ANY of that box of ammo.

It's important that you contact them about this obviously defective round. Include the photo and lot # and any other pertinent info for record. Let them contact you by phone and/or mail or whatever to resolve this issue. I'm sure they would want to know.

Who is making this stuff now? What is happening to the quality control? Is this stuff now being made in third world countries? The neck and body splits are totally unacceptable. I cannot believe that brand name ammo, especially Remington, is producing ammunition with such gross defects.

is it just that one round or are there multiple rounds with similar defects, in mass production its not hard to miss a split like that
inform the manufacturer but i wouldnt make a huge deal of it unless more than 10% of the rounds you bought had defects
sorry to say but UMC ammo is low priced for a reason, expect to find more defects than say hunting ammo
