My good friend Colby just received the 6 mags he ordered from CDNN. They are the steel 30 rounders for 9.99. Well the olny problem is they won't seat all the way in his new DPMS AR.

Have any of you had problems with these mags?

Gunner,

Most steel 30 round mags are junks, stay away from them and favor the USGI aluminum mags, that way you won't have feeding problems.

LRRPS.

A better question is "Have any of you NOT had problems with these mags?"

Send them back. They're junk. Made by angry anti-gun beavers.

Tell him to stick with US made GI magazines made by companies like Adventureline, Parsons, Colt, Okay, Center Industries, etc. These are REAL mags for the M16/AR15.

Go here and read about mags:
Magazine FAQ

And then go here:
AR15.com

I agree with the other guys. "Budget" mags almost always suck. Tell your friend to expect to pay about $20 for USGI mags and it will be worth it.

I think a lot of those no-name steel AR mags (not the Brit surplus ones) were cranked out as fast as possible before the AW ban took effect, with quality suffering for it. Same thing for the cheap-o M14 mags. I'm very leery of spending my money on any of those mags.

the cheap USA 30 rounders do reserve you the right to a fully functional 30 round magazine

if you could buy a new replacement mag body
you could repair the unfunctional USA steel Mag

Mine work ... but I sometimes have to "smack" them pretty good with the palm of my hand to get them fully seated. Once in, they work.

My USGI mags practically seat themselves. Sticking with USGI from now on.

Lesson learned. :(

Where's a good place to buy USGI Aluminum Mags?

Do they still have them new?

Or, do you buy them used and change the followers and springs?

How much should they cost?

I'd suggest www.georgiaprecision.com or go through ar15.com YOu'll pay between $20-30 for used USGI 20s, $30-40 now for NIW 20s, $15-22 for used USGI 30's and $25-35 for NIW USGI 30s. You can get replacement springs but often they won't need them.

USA aluminum mags are junk. So are their M-14 mags. However, if you have any steel 40 rd mags you hate I'll buy them at 10 bucks apiece. It takes work, but I have one that runs 100% with up to 41 rounds, very durable body too.
