Just got back from the range with my usually good running Ruger 22/45, and after jam after jam, stovepipe city, I opened up a new box of Remington Bulk ammo. My problem instantly went away. The Reminton ran flawlessly, and was notably hotter shooting. I usually have pretty good luck with the Fed bulk, but I'm not buying it any more. I only started shooting it again after getting a bunch of dud Remington rounds, but thats better than 3 jams every mag full of Federal.:D

ive had nothing but problems with federal in my 22's,i only shoot rem.now .i think they downloaded it or something.i used to have no problems:what:

Downloaded?

My buddies Smith & Wesson .22 shot the Federal ammo, that I was having trouble with, absolutly fine. I also noticed His bolt was way eaiser to pull back than my Rugers. Downloaded makes sense to why I was stovepiping so bad. I thought I heard a "Junk Ruger" joke while I was clearing a jam, I'll have to tell him what was actually junk:D

I am so sick of semi-auto 22's jamming on me. I'm going back to manual actions, only revolvers and bolts from here on out.

Please be specific about the federal bulk ammo. Is it high velocity or standard, h/p of rn? I've got a bunch of federal bulk ammo and it's very good for plinking and small game. I quit buying remington's famous golden bullet. Too many missfires.

I picked up the same 550 round Federal bulk pack of .22 at Wal-Mart last week. My Ruger Mark III Hunter was jamming every other magazine (and sometimes twice per magazine). I didn't have problems with any other brand.

It does indeed sound like there is a problem with Federal .22 ammo.

The ferderal bulk JUNK is the only thing that's been able to make my 10/22 unreliable. It's the blue box stuff, like $10 for 525.

Anyone had luck with the American Eagle high velocity stuff? It's still in the same price range is why I'm considering it.

I just finished up a box of Federal Wal*Mart .22s after Easter, bought a new one and shot half of it over the past two weeks. No jams, no misfires, they actually felt a little snappier than the box I had just finished. I have had no problems with them in a Walther P22, a Savage 64 rifle, or a Jennings J22 (other than the Jennings' usual craptacular performance).

I bought 5K CCI .22LRs for $9.99/500 last year and they are my reserve, they run fine too.

I've been having trouble with Federal bricks on my CZ75 Kadet as well. On average, I get between 1 to 2 stovepipes every 10 rounds.

Ditto on having problems with the Federal and the CZ Kadet having failure to extracts - the cartridge would get stuck halfway out of the chamber and the extractor would slip off.

I actually looked at the rim of the Federal bulk .22 and it's slanted, causing the extractor to slip. Remington .22 rims aren't slanted.

OK I'll ask again. The federal ammo you are having problems with is it high velocity or standard. I've shot thousands of bulk federal h/v 40gr. & 38 gr. with no issues whatsoever.

PLEASE CLARIFY

As a matter of fact the federal champion that I purchased at walmart has been outstanding. It's absolutely the most accurate and consistent ammo that I've shot. Now, bear in mind that I probably got lucky and got a good lot no. The next batch may be worse. Every box of ammo has a specific lot no. If you find a paticular lot that your gun likes, go back and buy as much of that lot no. as you can find.

351 Winchester,

This stuff is sold bulk packed at Wal-Mart in a 550 count box. It's the only Federal Rimfire loading that's sold this way.

I can tell you for CERTAIN that it's not Champion. I don't think that there's a corresponding non-bulk packed loading sold by Federal.

On the side:
.22 Long Rifle
High Velocity
36 Grain
Copper-Plated
Hollowpoint
550 rounds
Bulk Pack

On the front:
Value Pack
Copper-Plated
Long rifle HP

Wow, I guess that I have been lucky. I have never had a problem with the Wally World Federal bulk ammo, and have used it in:

Ruger 10/22 (2 of them)
Browning Auto .22
Taurus 62
Ruger Standard Model

As well as my non-semi-auto .22s, to include:

Winchester 1906
Marlin 39A
Ruger Single-Six

It always go "bang", and I haven't had any problems with feeding or ejection.

Wally World Fed

Yes same problem with fed bulk .22 from Wally. Had my nephews shoot all I had up. Made them and me happy.

I think the Champion is sold in 50 count boxes, lead bullets opposed to the copper washed bulk. I've shot those just fine. I think its all in the strenght of the recoil spring, as the lighter sprung guns seem to have less issues. The empty ammo box in question is shot full of holes, and in the range trash can, so I dont know if its high velocity or not. But I'm going with not.:D

How strange - -

- - - That the same ammo gives such diverse results for different members.

That exact same Federal bulk .22 LR described above by JohnKSa has been uniformly good in just about everything in which I've shot it.

These autoloaders:
  • Two different Browning Buckmarks, long and short
  • Ruger 10-22 (completely stock but for a Simmons 'scope.)
  • Old Stevens-Springfield 87A
  • Ciener .22 conversion mounted on Elder Son's Kinber Classic
  • Belgian Browning Standard .22 rifle
  • A friend's Ruger Mk II
And it has demonstrated accuracy, ranging from good to excellent in - -
  • S&W M34 .22/32 Kit Guns, both 2" and 4" bbls.
  • Colt Police Positive Target
  • Son's Remington Bolt rifle (M581??)
  • Kimber HS
  • Old Savage bolt rifle

I've noted some serious inconsistencies with the Remington bulk pack .22 LR. Winchester Wildcat .22 is so filthy AND low powered, it gums up the Ciener unit in just a couple of magazines.

Mr Guest's experiences and observations mirror my own.
JohnKSa's loading is the exact loading I am referencing as well . I do not have box handy, going from memory the is number 750, maybe 715??

.22 loadings that across the board run guns, and are accurate are Win X112lr, Win PowerPoint , CCI Mini-Mags and this Federal Bulk pack loading.

Fed Bulk pack Mr.Guest and JohnSa are referencing, always, always, always run in and shoot good to best groups in:

Ruger MKI, MKII
Buckmarks.
High Standard

Model 18, Model 34,
Beretta 21A

Marlin 60
Ruger 10/22
Pink Crickets,
Marlin 25 [youth gun]
Rem 5xx series[514 for instance]
Win 9422
Marlin 39

and others.

FWIW, I've not had any problems with it either. I was just posting a description...

My Ruger MK III is happy with Federal bulk pack (550 rounds) from Walmart. It does not have any problems in the past two boxes (=1100 rounds).

If you visit MKIII.org mkiii.org, you can see that many shooters like it.

The problem is not the ammo, there are many different ammo/weapon conflicts. Some won't cycle the CCI, some Federal, some Remington. It is a very difficult problem to explain but weapons are very picky when it comes to Rimfire ammo. BTW American Eagle brand is Federal ammo. If you find ammo that works in your weapon stick with it, if it doesn't work give the box you can't use to someone who can use it in theirs.
