bad idea to post list of personal arsenal ???

I don't believe in making lists for public consumption. I have my favorites and I have certain firearms that I hope to acquire in the future. I doubt if the all encompassing "government" has the time to read posts to determine what your accumulation is. That said, I would entirely expect that if you are involved in a crime, the research would be done.

Question for the Moderators: Has the government or law enforcement ever requested information on a certain THR member and what process do they have to go through to obtain that information?

I don't post anything that I would be worried about law enforcement or other agency to read.

<<<<<That's where I live

Probably not a great idea to post everything I have on the World Wide Web, but there are three Brian Williams living in Lancaster, PA. Would not take long to find exactly where I live.

Remember I am armed at home, Left & Right

I've seen more than one burglary that started with kids talking about all the cool guns Dad has at home. Mine know they aren't allowed to talk about that. I also don't put NRA stickers on my vehicles or carry a long gun in the rear window rifle rack. Why advertise yourself as a good target?

Aren't you up here in WA, Nem?
Not quite, Will. I was for a while, but left there a few years ago.

Now I'm wedged into a tiny little state that few even know exists (cause there's so few people in most of it) between WA & CA, north of the state of Jefferson.

And we DO have to register our guns 'down' here. But I have no problem with. If the gov does turn O'fficial nazi {tm} and starts doing gun collections from private citizens, then they gotta find me first... :neener:. Sure, it could happen, but i'm not losing sleep over it at this point. My studio is not a mosque, let alone one that attracts radical extremists; I don't visit radical, extremist web sites; I don't buy nitrate fertilizers; and I don't buy inordinate quantities of guns or ammo; I pay my taxes (when I make enough money to owe taxes :( ).

And as for BG's searching this forum looking for lists so they can come to my place to steal them, they'd have to be cracked out fools to try here. In the first place, my real-space addy is not listed on the forum (even my little sliver of "between Cascades & Pacific" is a BIG place), and neither is my real name.

(No, my real name is not Mr. Nem Atocyst the 870th. I've shared my real name with a few THRers that I know and trust via PMs, but not on the main forums. Paranoid? No, just careful, and I'm not so sure that real names mean anything on an international web forum like this where most of us will never meet in real space. My ideas can stand or fall on their own without revealing who I am publically - which is mostly a nobody anyway.)

Even if a thief could somehow get my company name, because I get service through a non-Ma Bell company, I'm not listed in the local phone book.

Secondly, the way my studio space is set up internally, with so many little port holes from room to room, from level to level, with so many internal security doors and a security system (if I told you more I'd have to kill you  :p ), a cracked-out thief would be at a serious disadvantage here, specially since I don't get out much, and am mostly here working, and am armed.

What? Me worry?

Mil-Dot, I have been saying for ages, that its imprudent to put this much personal info on the street. Besides that, IMHO, its a goofy affectation to fill a sig line with that stuff. Just who are they trying to impress?
Others opinions will vary. :D

To each his/her own

For my part, I prefer to not make a list. I believe that it facilitates some punk using the internet to engage in intelligence about who has what, and possibly to make plans to steal it. So, for my part, I'll never put out a list of what I own.

I would worry more about criminals than the government.

It's generally a bad idea (from a security standpoint) to reveal the location and security plan of any collection of valuable items: money, jewels, art, drugs, firearms, etc. Why invite trouble?

I wouldn't provide an easily accessible list of the firearms in my gun safe any more than I'd reveal how much cash I have on hand or what jewelery or other valuable items my wife might have at home.

I also recommend that gun owners keep at least two gun safes in their home. If there is a break-in and the thieves are after the contents of your gun safe, odds are pretty good they are prepared to attempt to crack your safe, but odds are against them having the time to break into more than one of them. Looking at two or more safes, they are facing the problem of deciding which one to crack to get what they are after, and thus having their plan unexpectedly disrupted, they might just give up.

I consider the listing of one's firearms in a sig line right up there with decorated gold front teeth and spinner wheels.

My Thoughts on Lists

Hi all,

I've been reading the thread with great interest as this one seems to resonate with those that think the BG or the gov (some think they are the same) are poised to pounce with this new informaiton.

I'll leave that one for each of our august members to decide for themselves. :)

My complaint against lists is that they screw up my searches. When I'm looking for background info on a weapon and discard hit after hit after hit after hit, ad nauseum, because I'm on some guy's signature line, well.... it colors my view on such things.
