:(, did anybody else get the bad news today? It was in my email inbox this morning.

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent order. We are very sorry to inform you that we are
unable to immediately fill your entire order and the merchandise listed below
has been placed on backorder.

Pietta 1858 New Army .44 cal. 5 1/2"BBL Revolver"
I guess Cabela's didn't order enough to cover the back orders or Pietta has not sent the shipment expected on NOV. 30th. :cuss: The wait continues...

I got that email last year when I ordered my 5.5" Rem. The 8" was in stock, and I received it in 3 days, but it was about 3 weeks before the 5.5" arrived.
Sorry to hear it happened to you too.
On the plus side, the 5.5" is worth the wait.

How much were they running for?
they are currently listed for $179. There is a $20 off anything over $150 promo right now too, they messed up a few things on my order so I got the $5 shipping too. I paid tax and it still was under $175. I ordered on Nov. 7th. Be a long time I guess.

Good News

I placed my Cabela's order for a pair of blue 5 1/2" barrel 1858 Remington NMA on 11/9 and was told they would come in on 11/30. I also received the same message that the revolvers would not arrive until 12/25.:banghead: I received an e-mail today that the pistols had shipped this morning, so apparently Pietta caught up on their shipments. I'll have a Merry Christmas after all, and perhaps the others waiting will have similar luck!!!:D

I finally tracked down the problem with my credit card, now I know why my card was being turned down by cabelas. Now I got an email from Dixie saying they are out of the rifle I ordered and won't get it in stock or something like that. Well now I'm guessing I need to just buy that dang .44 Remington from Cabelas knowing they don't have a rifle kit for me. Besides, I want to get a Kirst Konverter. I'll need a steel framed gun for that.

Hey, Indy4570:

Did you find anything interesting at the gunshow yesterday?
I never went to the show, stayed home next to the woodstove. I got the new email too, it said they shipped on the 3rd. Funny they sent the back ordered backorder email on the 4th....

Well, the bad news is over for me. My 5 1/2" blue '58s from Cabela's showed up today and are very nice. They are pretty and are as alike as peas in a pod, and one serial number apart; the serial numbers end with 7 and 9. It's easy to tell them apart as #9 has some nice figure in the grips. The fit and finish of both is excellent, and they lock up tight with very little end shake. I only fired one shot out of each into a cottonwood behind my house, 24 gns of Goex 3f, Hornady .454 RB and RWS #11 caps which fit very well. I'll take them out to Manteca on saturday and give them a good work out. I have conversion cylinders from Taylor's on the way, so I'll be using them for CAS. I found a pair of holsters I made in the late '90s for 5 1/2" Vaqueros that have shrunk a bit, but fit the Remmies just fine. All I have to work out is how to do a one shot reload on the clock.;) Here are images of the pistols together, and them in my holsters.:D

mine came is as well but after a few lockups it began to over rotate, it continues to do so randomly. The trigger is waaaaaaaay too long an needs some work. The grips are nice, a real nice on the left side with some tiger. A new one is on backorder AGAIN. I get to play with this one until the new one arrives and they even told me I could swap grips if I choose to. I am in love with this model and will keep trying until I get a good one!

I got lucky when I was able to inspect one beforehand at the local Cabela's store.
It had a really nice trigger pull so I bought it without hesitation.
But my store hasn't received any more 5.5" Remingtons since.
Cabela's has a store in Missouri and others either near a border or planned.

And they ship to the store for free.
If the store has a bunch in stock, would it be worth your while to drive and check them out?
Another alternative would be to order two or three guns and then selecting the best one to keep. :)

Beauhooligan,...
that is some mighty fine lookin' leather. Those two '58's look pretty happy in their new homes. Well done on the holsters and congrats on the guns too.
Thank you. I'm kind fond of working leather, been working leather since I was 12. I picked it up in the Boy Scouts. I wanted quality leather for handguns, but couldn't afford the prices, so I learned to build my own. I bought a basic tooling kit from Tandy Leather, kept adding tools and doing my best to do quality work. Those holsters are practical and almost indestructible, made with double thickness 10 oz leather. I'm currently making a 2 inch Ranger belt and a trouser belt for a fellow who lives in London. After that I'm going to make a very similar holster for a 5 1/2 inch SS Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .45 Colt, using fish scale stamping pattern instead of basket weave. I'll make a spare cylinder pouch for the .45 ACP cylinder. That could come in very handy one day, as I almost always have a 1911A1 and ammo for it around me somewhere.

Also, those Remmies are a magnificent thug of a pistol. These, with the 5 1/2" barrel fit my big hand as if my hand as the basis for design definition. Metal to metal and metal to wood workmanship is excellent, the color case hardening on the hammer and trigger are good. Both pistols will get a trigger job. If I cock either pistol and look down into the frame from the rear, the nipples are dead center under the hammer. I have two .45 Colt conversion cylinders coming from Taylor's, and should get those by tuesday. I'm going to shoot a CAS match on sunday, and will try out the blued Remingtons.:)

Beau, you pretty much summed it up; "magnificent thug of a pistol".
That was my impression as well. 30gr Pyrodex P behind a .454 and that dog will BARK.
