I'm looking for advice on how to handle an issue with Badger Custom Grips.

I recently ordered a set of Rosewood Boot Grips for my Ruger SP101. I received an email confirmation of the order but no shipping information. A week later I had not received the grips yet so I emailed Jim Badger and asked about the status of my order. I received a one line reply stating that the product had been delivered the day before. A USPS shipping number was also included. (It would have been nice to have that from the beginning as I would have know something was up before it was too late to do anything about it.)

Long story short, after a few phonecalls back and forth with the local Postmaster apparently the key for the Package box in my subdivision mailbox was put into the wrong mailbox. They don't know who got the key, but whoever they are has presumably gotten themselves a nice set of SP101 grips.

The Post Office is, of course, very sorry but is unable to do anything for me unless someone returns the package to the Post Office. I'm assuming that if they had any intent to return the package it would have been dropped off at my door seeing as how whoever it is lives within walking distance.

The Postmaster did state that the sender can file a claim with the Post Office for the value of the Package but that I cannot since I am not the sender. I advised Mr Badger of all of this via email as well as asking him for suggestions on how to rectify the issue but have received no response. I don't want to call my CC company and hit him with a chargeback, I just want the grips that I ordered.

I understand that from his point of view this could look like a scam but, suffice it to say, it isn't. I just want my grips.

What would you do?

Wow....I am going to have to reevaluate my opinion of people in general. Not 10 minutes after my initial post someone rang my doorbell. It was the guy down the street who got my grips by accident coming to return them.

Don't I feel like a you-know-what.

I never did hear back from Badger, but it is the Friday before Labor Day so maybe he was otherwise occupied.

Btw, these grips are AWESOME!

Good to see you got your grips. I have a pair made for the SP101, acquired pre-owned but never installed, but I have not yet decided which SP101 of mine will wear them.

Yeah, I thought those grips were gone for good.

I wont be able to try them out until next week but they look and feel absolutely incredible on SP101. Ive also found that it now points very naturally. Probably due to the different grip angle. Cant wait to try them out.

Well, I must be missing a few bits of information. Glad you got your grips, BTW, but wait now, did you really mean this line?

"I don't want to call my CC company and hit him with a chargeback, I just want the grips that I ordered." :scrutiny:

He sent you the grips (quickly, even if he didn't advise you of any pertinent shipping info), advised you of the delivery, and you would screw him over for a mistake a third party (the good old PO) makes? Your comment makes it seem as though you were ready, willing, and able to do so because you had not heard from him quickly enough....just before a holiday? There was a very long period of my life (like 40+ years) where no one got an email re: shipping info because such a thing did not exist. We had something called patience back then. Your patience level is apparently set at zero.

I gotta tell you, I bet you meant this to sound differently, but it really comes off a bit wrong. I doubt the Credit Card company would even consider doing a chargeback since the PO shows a delivery, or at minimum it would take a great deal of convincing on your part. The most likely scenario is that they would want the seller to have a reasonable opportunity to open a claim with the PO. Reasonable as in wait for contact after the freaking holiday!

A litte patience goes a long way. A better presentation of your perceived beef would have also. Sorry to be judgemental......

Otony:

I realize that I asked for advice on how to handle the situation (that has since become a non-issue) and I can appreciate that meanings and intent can become easily misconstrued in an internet setting. As far as my perceived lack of patience is concerned, you are entitled to your opinion. When Mr Badger replied to my original email(sent Wed afternoon) the following morning I thanked him for his prompt reply. I also noted that the email was sent via blackberry. You can follow the logical conclusion to that statement and my likely reason for expecting prompt responses to my subsequent emails.

As far as waiting until after the "freaking holiday" I think I already covered that angle in my earlier post. As an aside, not everyone is fortunate to be able to take time away from work to observe/enjoy the "freaking holiday" and I had actually forgotten that it was a holiday weekend until I was advised of that fact by the Post Office.

As far as the possibility of a chargeback, I thought I made it clear that this was NOT something I wanted to do. In my emails to Mr Badger I made no mention of such a thing. I only advised him of the situation as it was explained to me by the Post Office and asked him what he suggested we should do to rectify the situation. YOU may think it is okay to pay for a product you never received but I don't. If such a situation had arisen, it was made clear to me by the Post Office that Mr Badger would be able to file a claim to recoup his loss but that I would not.

Judging from the good reviews online and the excellent quality of the finished product, I am sure that Mr Badger has done plenty of business and has likely run into similar situations before. I, however, have never been in a position where I paid for a product, didn't receive it, and had no proof that I never received it. (In fact, the tracking number stated the exact opposite- that I did receive it!) Hence my asking for advice.

Anyway, thanks for chiming in (sincerely) and I aplogize if any of this came out the wrong way.

classcpl,

I just read your sig line... was it a tac'd out Irish, Jamaican, Phillipino, Haitian, Hawaiian Mosin?:neener:

I'm glad it worked out but I have to agree with Otony in his assessment. It would've been pretty underhanded to report this to your credit card company, for the screwup was not his fault and he DID ship the grips. Sometimes "stuff" happens that is beyond our control and patience is a virtue.

Always great to hear of neighbors being honest.

Had a similar situation when I shipped a gun back to S&W for repair.
The Fedex guy showed up unexpectedly when I wasn't home & gave the gun to my neighbor. I didn't know anything about it til later that day when he saw me outside. He brought the package over & never knew what was inside.

ak474u.......I believe it was.

Hondo 60: Im glad you have an honset neighbor.....that could have worked out to a serious cluster.

CraigC: Im pretty much done defending myself on this one. You are entitled to your opinion.
