handguns only chosen when the only other option is no weapon or a pointed stick. */zip up anti-flame suit/*
No suit needed. No less than The Colonel himself, or maybe it was Clint Smith, has said that a handgun is what you use to fight your way back to a real gun. Or words to that effect

Quick moving target in poor variable light? I'd be suprised if they did get any hits. The guy was running fast and once he got out of the cruiser's headlights, it looked pretty dark.

As for the female trooper, she was watching the driver. And, she moved to cover while drawing her gun as soon as the action with the passenger occurred. Half a beat while she sees and comprehends what's going on, then she moves. Remember, she has to watch the scuffle with the passenger. and still be prepared for the driver to do something.

As for approaching every traffic stop with an M-16, how would you like it? A burnt out taillight, and the cop levels a machinegun at your head? Not to mention the trouble they'd have taking your license and registration if both hands are full of long-gun.

They'd be a lot more vulnerable to a grab or getting shot if they tried to hold a rifle level with one hand, while taking your paperwork with the other. And you'd be a lot more vulnerable to being accidentally shot while they do so. :uhoh:

I never said it was reasonable, just stated that it would have probably worked. I over did it with the shotgun on the otherside of the car to show that at somepoint there is a trade off.

THere were definately other things he could have done to prevent that. Approaching that closely to someone that isn't cooperating and leaning into the car alone was probably not a good idea.

I think the female trooper acted properly she backed awa drew and took cover. She needed to back away to be able to see both the situation and the driver at the same time.

It also may have worked had the contact officer had his flashlight in his weak hand and his gun hand by his side instead of his weak hand in his pocket and his flashlight in his strong hand.

As for the cover officer, with the contact officer in a death duel with an armed man, I think the correct procedure would have been to move to the armed bad guy and put a bullet in him from contact distance. It could have been done while watching the driver.

Anyway, I think it's a good recovery, and a good result. Misses happen with a moving shooter and a moving target.

The male officer should have had his hand on his gun, thumb break off, while talking to the passenger. He took so long to fumble for his gun he could have already been dead. And then the passenger with gun in hand against the female trooper with no gun drawn. Good luck with that too.

The passenger just didn't have the will/desire to use his gun, which I think is why the officers are alive.

I am very suprised he missed from like 2 feet away as the guy ran away. Seems almost impossible to miss from that close. But what do I know, i have never been in a shootout.

Good Grief! With a pistol against his throat, he wrestles the gun away and draws and fires his weapon, causing the BG to run and saving his own life and maybe his partners. And everyone complains because he shot one handed and missed? No, it wasn't a perfect response, because it wasn't a training excercise. Has anyone here ever even fired a single shot with that much adrenaline going? Doubt it. Give that cop a medal for not surrendering his weapon. Unbelievable second guessing from people who have never been in harms way.

Glad no one was hurt...but probably since they emptied their clip instead of their magazine........

Clips are for holding ammo OUT of guns. Magazines are for holding ammo IN guns.

I don't even want to know what a belt-fed .45 would look like ;)
