Yep, it looks impressive at 10 feet.

Surprising that it only penetrated 17.5 inches, considering it is a bonded core type bullet designed to penetrate deeper.

Just my .02,

At longer ranges where the velocity has a chance to bleed down penetration would be deeper

At an impact speed of almost 3000 FPS I'm rather impressed at how well the bullet held together. Make no mistake about it, these are some TOUGH bullets

I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't want it hitting me. It might make me have a bad day.

capturing a 308

My son and I tried for a long time to capture a 308 with no success. Finally a week or 2 ago we were able to capture a 7.62x54r by firing into a waterlogged, heavily rotted batch of 2x6's. I'm surprised that the Gel wasn't able to retain the bullet shape better.

The faster and wider the bullet expands, the shallower the penitration. You can`t have both. The X bullet, if you notice doesn`t expand as wide as other soft points. The Nosler Partition normally blows off the front half and the petals fold back against the shank reducing frontal area.
Bonded core bullets do dig deeper then similar SPs due to more retained wgt but do not go as deep as a Fail-Safe, X bullet, or other bullet of similar constrution. A better comparision for the Fusion would be to pit them against a Inter-Bond or Accu-Bonds.
