If how they look after being dug out of gel influences your buying decision,
Not at all and to ask such a thing is really not necessary. A bit of off the wall humor gets overlooked again. No wonder I'm not a comedian.
 
How a JHP looks after being recovered from gelatin can quite easily make a difference. If all that is pulled out is a jagged piece of jacket fragment, this can quite easily be reported as being the maximum penetration, even if the core of the bullet did not penetrate as deeply. This has happened on occasion to me, where a piece of the jacket or core actually penetrates further than the core of the bullet. As is standard practice, the deepest depth reached by any part of the bullet is reported as the maximum depth, and the depths of the other bullets pieces are reported.

I like the vast majority of Gold Dots that I have seen - always in one piece at the end of the penetration, some with minor lead missing but otherwise great integrity. Because of that, I know that the 'penetration' reported by anyone else is likely done by a large chunk of metal as opposed to a small sliver of copper or lead.
