Ballistol. I like it.

I use it as well.

There are better cleaners for removing metal deposits, but most of the time I just want to get the gunk off and Ballistol is great for that. If won't hurt you and it cleans up easy. I've found it works even better when mixed with a bit a water, and I've never had a problem with rust or gumming.

^^^

no froglube is the stuff where you have to heat up the metal parts of your gun with a blow dryer until they are too hot to touch and then apply it to the hot metal with a brush....

 I laugh so hard every time I see a froglube video on youtube.... and continue to use CLP / Remoil....

apparently former Navy Seals needs some $$$ and pitch their overpriced products to gun owners....

I have been using it for over a year and have had no problems. I like the smell more than Break Free CLP. Although the wife tends to complain about the smell. But I like it so far.

One time I went after my smoker and grill with it. It worked great. I clean my tools with it from time to time too.

I sort of belong to the "lightly clean, but clean regularly" sort of mind set. If I get some deposits that cause me trouble, I might break out something stronger.

I am goin to mix some Ed's red. Do I need the acetone?

No, you do not need acetone in Ed's Red but it does make it more effective in my opinion. For the record, I substitute MEK for acetone since it evaporates slower.

Anybody try Froglube? Another biologically friendly cleaner?

Yes sir! It's my favorite. My guns stay clean and slick all the time.

I dig Ballistol, too. I only used it briefly after ditching the toxic Hoppes/RemOil combo and before finding Frog Lube. I'm surprised some people don't like the smell. It smells like Fruit Stripe gum. Love it, but not as much as the Ben Gay smell of Frog Lube.

I got some pre-soaked patches with ballistol on them when I ordered my patchworm. It works pretty good. I also ordered some prolix at the same time. I really like it and am using it as my "everyday" clp for normal cleanings.

Another convert here...use it on everything from Glocks to a Garand to a Desert Eagle.

Primarily due to its being non-toxic and easy to clean-up. At this point other than some Tetra-Grease it's the only CLP that I use.

Its great stuff!!

I really like to use it for just about everything firearm related. I do use it in conjunction with other products (i.e., Hoppe's and Royal Purple).

Ballistol also makes for a very good leather dressing.

I use Balistoil also

I find its a great for basic cleaning and lubrication. For more difficult to clean barrels, I use M7Pro Bore Gel.

I particularity like it because its non-toxic and easy to clean up. Only place that I felt it was less effective was cleaning our a Mosin's chamber.

Last week I was cleaning my cousins AR15-22. He bought it used and shot it a bunch...and it was very dirty. He laughed when I showed him that the bolt face was actually stainless steel and not blued...it was so dirty you couldn't tell. So we wiped it down with the balistoil. There were a few spots that were trouble. I told him that this stuff will keep working after your done. The next day, he took it home and broke it down. The hard spots that we were struggling with wiped off like butter.

I've used it for several years to get lead out of my PCP and break-barrel airguns. I have used it on several powderburners as well. It's a mineral oil based clean/lube, but my wife says it smells like my underwear, after mowing the lawn.

Don't like it on the rails of my sidearm, it thickens and gunks-up. ATF works great there, but I do use it to clean its bore.

EDIT: I do use it to protect the outside metal and wood parts of all my guns. It's great for that. I've also sprayed it directly into the ejection port of my AR to give it a cushion right before some heavy lead slinging downrange.

I find the smell reminds me of licorice, but the wife hates the smell so much, it has been banned from the house.

I'm going to try transmission fluid as a substitute.

Thanks to the meth heads acetone is becoming a regulated product...don't expect to be able to buy large amounts to make ed's red
