I think when commercial planes were first flown in the 1930s, there were no restrictions on arms carried on board.
Imagine if the plane the 9-11 hijackers took down had at least 1 person with a gun on board. I think their "holy war" pipedreams would turn into a nasty nightmare.

Hey come on now. We must stay calm and rational. Giving into frustration is not going to help.
I wonder if they would ban .50 caliber muzzleloaders.
I am sure if they do ban the .50 BMG, someone will just come out with a .49 BMG.
If you concentrate on the ends, you will always be at the ends in more ways than one.

I think that's .500 DTC. A .510 would fall under the DD laws.

They can plausibly claim ignorance, but that's not their behavior.
Oh, and BTW, now that the .50 is up for ban, I'm switching to the 12.5mm magnum.

The (Anti) "freedom states alliance". That was the replacement for "Join Together" which was an anti-group funded by the Joyce Foundation.

This is my .50 caliber concern:
the first time some nut commits murder with a .50 caliber sniper rifle, a brand new and very menacing threat against the Second Amendment will emerge on the political scene. Misuse of a canon like that would be extremely prejudicial against our right to own guns.

I Need A 50BMG For At Least One Reason I Can Think Of:
Sometimes the enemy lines up and you can take out six or seven of them with one round of ball ammo. That is cheaper than six or seven rounds of .308!
I can think of many reason why I want one.

You can live free holding the stock and possibly never have to pull the trigger, or you can try to live free at the muzzle. I prefer to hold the stock and live free. Those at the muzzle never seem to fare quite so well. B.E.Wood

I think this is going to take a turn at some point; having beaten the ban .50s drum so long, they will switch and throw them under the NFA.
That way they will be able to make some claims of safety and control - and smile and say, "See, we are not about keeping these guns from the lawabiding - we just want to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands"
Somewhere down the road I would also look for the all-powerful autonomus we-don't-come-under-the-direction-and-control-of-the-Whitehouse-we-do-what-we-please BATF to run up their racketeering operation with a substantial increase in the $200 NFA "transfer tax".

I hope they DO go after the "medium caliber sniper rifles!" After all, who needs this awful, evil device that can rain death from a mile away? Hunters? You don't NEED to hunt! We have a very well developed centralized agricultural system that has made hunting an anachonism! TURN EM ALL IN, Mr. and Mrs. America!
Maybe that would finaly get the deer hunters off their duffs. The only thing better would be to threaten to completely ban O/U shotguns, too! Get those rich skeet shooters' feathers all ruffled up, perhaps THEN they'd give a spit about us plebes!

The antis always use the word "need". It's really annoying. We don't NEED 99% of the things we have. Eliminate that from their argument and you are left with a hollow emotional argument without a fact to stand on.

Preachin' to the choir I suppose, but sniper is designated by the target, not the cartridge. Just so happens some cartridges work better than others in anti-personnel roles.
These are pretty nice sniper rifles and I don't hear anyone crying about banning them.

Lets look at some charachteristics of 50 cal. rifles, shall we?
1) They weigh upwards of 20 lbs.....not exactly transportable without a vehicle.
2) The ammo cost is over $1/round......why would a terrorist want to spend that kind of money on ammo?
3) A 50 cal rifle runs anywhere from $4000-$12,000.
4) A terrorist can obtain an AK-47 for less than $100 outside the U.S and buy thousands of rounds of ammo for what it would cost for 200 rounds of 50 ammo. Why would a terrorist bother with a 50? Common sense says they won't! This is a classic campaign of propoganda based on ignorance that the sheep will take as truth, hook, line, and sinker.
BTW, your typical enthusiast is a white male, middle aged, with an income over $75,000. Does this sound like a terrorist to you?
