BAR short trac in 338 federal????

OK here is my question. I dont know much about custom gunwork but since the 338 federal round is based off of a 308 case could I buy a BAR shorttrac in 308 and have it turned into a 338 federal? I would then have a 6lb 10 oz semi auto rifle in a somewhat bigbore caliber. If this is possible what would need to be done to the gun and how much would it cost.

Personally, I don't see why not, since case specs, overall length, and pressure is all going to be almost identical. but a call to Browning would ensure.
