My dad and I went to the range this morning and I took my chrono along for some testing. I was not really planning on running the Mak over the chrono but I figured what the heck. Here are the results.

Barnaul
Gun:Bulg. Mak
Grains:95
Velocity:
1066
1088
1032
1091
1074
1081
1059
1059
Std Dev: 19
Avg: 1069
High: 1091
Low: 1032
ES: 59
Power Factor: 102

I was rather surprised at the velocity. These seem to be rather accurate too. I have shot water jugs with them and there are some interesting terminal balistics.

All of the Barnaul ammo I have chronographed (9X18, .223, and 7.62X39) is quite powerful and pretty accurate. Its definately worth the price and seems to outperform the Wolf. Barnaul is my favorite Russian brand.

Thx for info - 241 ft lbs ME - that is not to be sneezed at!!

Good chrono info is always useful - and I use my Chrony to good effect when I can. This info tho is always welcome - one of the great purposes behind a site such as THR - sharing of data. :)

I was wondering if this was the FMJ or the HP's. I shot some 95 gr. Barnaul JHP's out of my PA 63 across my chrony this weekend. The average velocity was about 975 fps. as I recall. I was thinking of using this instead of the Hornady XTP ammo for defense purposes (chronied 940 fps) but have heard that the Barnaul JHP's don't penetrate as well.

It was the 95gr. HP. I don't know about penetration testing but I do know that they open up to about 1/2" or so when shot into water bottles. It left a ragged mushroom with jacket being very sharp. For $0.10 per round I do not expect Gold Dot performance but in a pinch I would trust this ammo. It seems hot enough and is what this pistol was made for. I don't know what ammo the com-bloc used in these though. :)
