I've tried the CCI Velocitor and Winchester Hyper Speed in pistols and both have their pros and cons with the Velocitors being more accurate and reliable, but the Winchester is cheaper and faster. One I have never shot before is the Aguila Interceptor as in the past I viewed the solid bullet as a waste, while the hollow point I questioned its expansion capability. Over time I concluded that if we're just talking about handguns, a solid bullet is the superior option for better penetration for .22, so finally a few weeks ago I ordered a couple boxes of this rather pricey .22 LR to see where it stacks up along with the others.

I was not prepared for the results. From the 3 inch Ruger LCRx:

Low- 1131
High- 1198
Avg- 1162

Std Dev- 23

A few months back I tested CCI Velocitor in the same revolver and got the following:

Low- 1020
High- 1085
Avg- 1059

Std Dev- 21

The Aguila Interceptor was over 100 fps faster with the same projectile weight as the CCI Velocitor! 1162 fps is well into .22 Magnum territory.

Gentlemen, I think I found a new carry ammo for .22 LR...

I bought 1,500 or so of the Interceptors a while back. I found them in bricks at Big 5, IIRC.

I haven’t chronographed them, but they do have more sound, recoil and actual flash than any of the other high velocity or hyper velocity .22 RF loads I have shot. This is from my S&W 617 6”.

Thanks for the numbers, you have shown what I thought was going on with these rounds.

Stay safe.

Eley primed or Aguila primed?
I was all set to make those my serious rimfire load, but I’ve had a few failures to fire, mine were labeled Aguila primed.

Aguila Interceptor is one of my favorite .22 rounds. I also like CCI Velocitor. Both rounds are very accurate from my .22 revolvers.
I haven’t seen either round on store shelves in a long time.
Thanks for the velocity measurements @TTv2

Aguila prime.

I've had issues with Aguila .22 Shorts in the past, their Super Extra seems fine, the premium hyper velocity stuff all I've shot so far has been this Interceptor and need more time with it, but it was 100% the half box I shot thru the LCR.

I recently acquired both the HP and solid Inteceptors.
They are acceptably accurate and definitely live up to velocity claims.

Velocities come quite close to that af .22wrm in equivalent barrels under 6”in length.

I'v not tryed the Aquila hyper velocity stuff but I picked up some Norma eco speed-22. 24 grain at 1706 fps. Couldn't get it to run in any semi auto, rifle or pistol. But very accurate in both my model's 17 and 18. Easy extraction in both revolvers. IMG_20231027_221103_HDR.jpg

Did you try it in a rifle barrel? I'm curious to see how it stacks up with Velocitor out of a rifle.

No I haven’t simply because there are so many reviews on you tube. It’s typically 20-50fps faster than CCI Velociter, which is typically 50-100fps slower than advertised. I’m particularly satisfied with the Aquila Interceptor. I shot three ruffed grouse with my Taurus TX22 with it three days ago…(hp version).
