Can anyone help me with load data for Barnes Varmint Grenade Bullets in .22-250, 36gn, using Accurate or Vihtavouri powders please?

I am having the same propblem as you but i want load data for H380 and Varget. If i find anything I will pm your or post it here. I too have a .22-250 and the 36 gr grenades.

Hey i fonud it. It doesnt give load data for either of your prefferable powders but it does for varget. VARGETStarting load for 36 gr. VG seated 0.058 off the lands: 36.5 gr. VARGET 3,975 FPS MAX 40.5gr. 4,363 FPS. I would be very carefull about loading them any faster than 4000 fps. 4000fps is equivilent to 2727.27 miles per hour. Sending anything that fast through a metal barrel will quickly aid in barrel errosion. (aka burning your barrel out) NOT GOOD! Alhough it ussually insn't a factor unless you shoot over 200 rounds or so in one setting. be careful and assume i have a disclamer haha.

I have no data for AAC powders for 22-250 but I do have for,W-748 ,H-335 ,TAC ,Varget(same as above by DennisH87), IMR-4320 and ,RL-15 ,from handloader mag.I've worked the Varget load up to 39.5 gr. with outstanding results, seems the faster you drive it the better it shoots.I'll post the other data if you want it.
 
Doug b, what kind of accuracy did you get out of your varmint grenade bullets? I've heard that they dont shoot for **** on some ppls guns and in others they shoot one hole groups. i know every gun is differnt but its seems to me they really perfer one type of twist rate or another.
 
today i tested the varmint grenades with varget. I used the middle powder charge and seated them at three differnt lengths. I loaded 5 rounds at .005 off the lands, .010, and .020. As i suspected the most accurate round was seated .005 off the lands. .020 was the size of a golf ball or bigger, .010 was a little smaller, and .005 was about .5 MOA. i still have to test them with H380. im not extremly pleased with the accuracy but i didnt expect them to shoot like a match bullet. I loaded this bullet to blow the **** outa ground hogs! lol
 
Doug b, do you happen to know the velocity on your VG bullets loaded with 39.5gr of Varget?? becuase i happend to load mine to 39.6gr of varget so the velocity would be about the same. i wasnt shooting well when i shot this group but it was still under 1/2" with one flyer about .25 away from the center of the group. all other holes where touching and looked like a "Y". group was 5 shots @ 100 yards.
 
I was in North Dakota a couple of weeks ago killing prairie dogs. A buddie of mine who is a decent reloader was using some Varmint Grenade's he had loaded up. The accuracy was there, but the carnage was not much different than his normal hornady v-max loads, and not near as good as my 204 Ruger.

With the winds, neither worked well over 250yds, just too light...

That grape video was a great marketing tool...
 
The Varmint Grenade 62 gr. out of my Savage 243 does not stabilize.
Tried different powders and loads and seating depth, etc. While the extreme spread and standard deviations measured on my Chrony don't look bad, down range they shoot groups as large as 8 inches. My 65 Grain v max go into 1 inch.
They can keep the VG. What a waste of primers, powder and money.:barf:

Have no idea what the problem is other than they do not stabilize with 1:10 twist. Another strange anomaly is they also shoot almost 6 inches to the left as compared to 54, 70, 75, 80 and 87 gr bullets.

Wonder who else encountered this?:(
 
pilot teacher, here are the loads on the Barnes site that you may have seen.
Barnes lists the twist to be 1in10 or faster for that bullet. You're on the upper fringe of the required twist, and you would more than likely need to achieve top velocity to have a chance of stabilizing those VG bullets.

I'm a copper and lead guy and do not shoot Barnes.
Stick with what works.

Yeah I got the Barnes #4 Reloading book and tried those loads. Reloader 19 is a little too slow and even though they are almost compressed it does not help.
I sent an e-mail to Barnes asking them about the issue. When I hear from them I'll update the post. Also tried Varget, H4895, IMR 4895 and 3031, RE-15. Might try to work up a load with 4198. Also tried R-P, Hornady and Win brass. All my brass is sorted by head and weight. Checked case neck and bullet run out. All the parameters are fine. It's really wierd. Been reloading since I was 16 and never seen anything like this.
