Can't seem to match up my bullet brands with the powders I like to use. Specifically, I'm trying to find a load for an AR type rifle using the Barnes Varmint Grenade (50 Gr.) using Benchmark powder. Hodgdon manual doesn't list the Barnes bullet and Barnes data doesn't list Benchmark powder.
Wondering if the bullet brand is critical to the load pressure if the bullets are the same construction.
The Barnes is a flat base, hollow point design.:banghead:

The bearing surface length of the bullet also has an effect on pressure. Longer = more pressure. A thicker copper jacket = more pressure.

Data for a similarly built bullet will be fine. The 50 Gr V Max for instance, or the 50 Gr TNT. (Thin jacket, soft lead varmint bullet) As always, start low and work up.

That is why they have all that boring fine print in the manuals about "starting loads" and "working up." They can't afford to test every possible combination of bullet and powder to provide "recipes" for the cookbook reloader.
