It likely won't matter since I'm unlikely to bother with deer hunting in California (where lead free bullets are mandated), but I'm still curious about how the XPB fares in the 1894. The 225 Grain .44 cal XPB is nearly an inch long so I don't imagine the Marlin's 1:38 twist would do too well with it.
The 200 grain XPB seems like it would bleed off energy and momentum really fast.
There aren't too many other lead-free options in .44 cal. There is cutting edge which are insanely expensive and Lehigh defense which wouldn't be legal here since they don't expand.
