Let me answer that one, a normal remmie cylinder pin is straight with no tapered or reduced dimensions. What Mike has done is create a channel by cutting a taper and reducing the diameter of the pin to give any fouling a place to go without binding the cylinder in the process. Take a look at the cylinder pin from a Ruger Old Army, same idea, Mike has improved on it a bit and made it work for the Remington. And yes the smaller barrel to cylinder gap means more powder and resulting fouling goes down the barrel rather than all over the front of the cylinder and every little recess it can get into.
