Barrel length?

How much velocity doyou loose with a 5 1/2" bbl\\ (in .45) opposed to a 8 " bbl?
Remington Army.
The difference between the gtwo dosen't seem much!
both shoot round ballsfast and hard with a 35 gr load of Pyrodex!
The 8" is most accurate at long ranges.
How do other owners load and what results do you get?
I tred a conversion cylinder in the 8" with Scoffields.

Not much but the differences start to get noticable when using heavier connicals. There is a thread about this already.

Mike Beliveau (duelist1954) did some range testing with a chronometer using a few Ruger Old Armys with different barrel lengths, different powders, and different projectiles.

He posted the videos (6 parts) on youtube along with charts for the velocites and other information. It was very imformative.
