Mine is the .44 because of the revolvers that fire it.
Both the large Colt-style and the Remington Army seem to fire more reliably and the Remington has the absolute fewest cap problems.
My .36 London Uberti has been nothing but a "Cap Headache" in as much as having at least one cap jam on the average of each seven shots. Most falling down inside the action, one causing the Hand to break the spring and needing a replacement Gosh the "London" is a beauty, functions smooth and fires well when it does...
My Loads are for a Brass Frame Navy, 15 gr of Pyrodex with a Pistol wad and filler to bring the .454 ball close to the cone.
For the Remington .44, 35 grains of Pyrodex, a Revolver Wad and .454 ball (No filler).
Colt London .36 22 grains of Pyrodex a Pistol Wad and .480 ball.
Wat is your favorite caliber, gun, and why?

Mine has been 44 for several years; as a teen in the 60's with a Kentucky pistol kit gun and now with a ROA, but a recent acquisition of a 31 Colt clone has kind of made me rethink. The little 31 uses a lot less powder and lead and is as gentle as a 22 to shoot, making longer range sessions, and even my wife feels comfortable shooting it, she won't touch the ROA for any money.

.44 without a doubt.
My first handgun (of any type) was a Replica Arms 1860 Army. Although I have a couple of .36's and a .31, my .44's are the ones I take out shooting.

.44 in all and every way.

Among which, is that having medium-large Hands, the Frames and Grip-Trigger Bow relation of the .36 Calibre Models are usually a little too small for comfort with me.

ZVP, sounds like that .36 london navy is giving you way too much trouble. I'll take it so you don't have to deal with those dreadful cap jams :D

My first BP gun was a CVA Sheriffs model 1851 .36 caliber, waaaay back when in the early 1970's and loved it. For some reason I've stuck with the .36's...have just always enjoyed them. I do have some .45 single shot percussion pistols I love also. Have recently looked into maybe picking up an 1860 Army and Ruger Old Army...if I can find one at a price I can afford.

Love my cartridge guns and .357 is my all time favorite, but this is the BP board! I prefer .44/.45 (.454 is as much a .45 as .457 IMHO). They just seem to be the most accurate. Okay, I'll admit, I've never owned a .36 and I'm sure they' shoot great, too. My .31 is NOT as accurate, accurate enough for the job it was designed for, but it's minute of paper plate at 25 yards.

Now, I had a .44 brasser .51 navy back 35 years ago that I wore out stuffing it full of triple F. I was a young noob without benefit of experienced internet wisdom. I swore off brassers for a long time until I came to the realization reading this board that all I really needed to do is download the thing. So, I got this new brasser now. So far I've NOT had cap jams with it. The caps do come apart in it, but they stay in the nipple channel until rotated around. My old Navy used to have cap jams all the time. I'm not sure what the difference is other than I'm loading light now, but the cap still comes apart on firing. I postulate that perhaps the old gun loaded hot tore up the caps such that they would easily fall out and that is probably the difference. The caps in the downloaded gun stay in one piece and stick themselves into the nipple channel of the cylinder. Of course, I only have 48 rounds through the new gun, so I may be due a cap jam. :D But, so far, so good.

My ROA, of course, laughs at the thought of a cap jam. It's superbly accurate, easy to shoot, hits HARD, no worries about downloading to preserve the frame, and shoots conicals easily. I know it's not "authentic", but by damned it's the best shooter out there! I really don't want to modify anything on it, like it just as it is. The ONLY think I would do is add a taller front sight as It would give me a proper sight picture, but I can shoot it fine as is. It's my favorite and its caliber is .45. It rivals any cartridge gun I have for reliability and accuracy. It's big and heavy, though.

Naw I have to keep it because it's now become an issue of "me or it" and the challange is too daunting to leave alone, Ha-Ha!
I am determined to get the little .36 running on all six and keep it that way.
The little Colt replaca is very accurate and when it does work, I really like it's mild manners. Next to no recoil, reduced noise level and a speedy ball.
I have to admit that I am getting awfully frustrated with that London Colt jamming and breaking though.

I like .44 in C&B, .45Colt in BP Carts, .45ACP in a M1911A1 Colt ooops I mean in an auto :O) And .357mag/.38spl in a smokeless cart Rev...
Oh yeah...and .22 cal in a rimfire cart :O)

I like .457 RB the best...in a Ruger Old Army....45 Colt load with holy black is great fun too!

p.s. The ROA IS an authentic original....all my Colt & Remington cap-n-ball revolvers are nothing more than replicas; not real authentic American made originals like my ROA. The replicas are fun to shoot and learn how to be a gunsmith though.
